    Re: 478 cu in V6

I know one guy who has a Jimmy V6 in his mid 60s Chevy pickup. I know a couple guys who had stock GMCs with the V6, I worked on their trucks, but its' been several years ago. The V12 is bitchin...but it's kind of long and heavy for the cubes.

There was a bit of mixed up info but I think overall there's a lot of solid info there.

My plan is to trim the rod journals down to BBC or sbc size, use some inexpensive rods, the longest ones I can buy, and go to about 9-1 for use with an 8V92 blower I picked up.

I'm hoping to pick up some cubic inches as well along the way hopefully well over 500ci.

I have a sheet metal blower manifold already waiting to be welded together. In the process now of redesigning the water crossover (to keep it low and out of the way of the blower belt) and a timing cover that eliminates the water pump and utilizes two electric pumps.

Is this anything a kin to the GMC V6 that made it's way into pickups in the 60's?
Yep! somebody swapped one in to a 68 gmc 2500... "Hold Mah beer and watch this!"https://youtu.be/uvvFks-6qrk

Ironically, found some modern chores done to the size under the 478 on you tube recently..
better ignition, a four barrel adapted.
                  electric fuel..
                  sounds damn good.

There was a sticker for the 305 v6, the old checkered flag and that french symbol..
some think it was for the v8,as the v6 was so obscure...and it isn't (the 305 v8, never got that sticker)
Glad to see a build revived.

this video is from just last may.

Haha yeah, well as you can guess the info on these is scarce so any time I get the opportunity I jump at it.

I love that this thing has 0 support currently short of an HEI conversion and some laser cut flanges lol.

                    6-71 to 8v71 blower adapter

The new 8v92 blower I picked up

The truck everything's going into (grungy yes but these days people pay for this kinda patina lol) note the exhaust haha

Mocking everything up on the 305 I picked up
Works out well as the person I grabbed the blower manifold parts from had cut them for the normal non-magnum heads so I'll be putting these on the 478 but with big valves

Going to have a new timing cover made to shorten how far the blower hangs over the front of the engine, also a water neck to match.

Blower kit parts I picked up, this is why I bought the adapter plate so I could lay it over this and drill it vs having to drill angled holes in it and get it correct.

I picked up 3 eaton axles because I love their design and the pinion is gigantic.
I'm planning to have one cut up merged with a Front D60 outer bits and stuff under the front.
I'm keeping the coil spring rear but flipping the housing (drop out can fit on either side, right side up or upside down so this will flip the perches) and bumping up the ride height

Hopefully that will all work out, I still need to find a divorced 205 Tcase for the thing so I can keep using sm420's and maybe swap to a nv4500/5600 in the future.

                        Nice! 3,500rpm, 10,000lb/ft of torque
                        Escaped on a technicality.

Yeah, I've played around with the numbers, if I use a 2.0" journal size and the rod journal is 2.811" I should pick up enough stroke to get to 686ci roughly with a .030" overbore.
The blower is just for fun, if it's ineffective it's fine. It's mostly to make it look that much more radical.

This is most of why I chose to use an eaton at both ends, I can use Detroit lockers from 14B's and they are supposedly indestructible.

Hopefully it works out to be a solid tow rig haha and something no one has seen before.

You going to keep the PY0's on that rig when you swap the axles or get something different?

I have a 10 bolt I'll steal the leafs from and get this conversion kit to weld on the mounts for the front

PYO's are the aluminum GM rims that appear to be on the front of your truck.... another option is Hummer H2 rims with PYO center caps.... Click image for larger version
