Just about finished with the 260 Ford Cruise-o-matic swap to a 302/5.0L roller with AOD. 302 is mild with B cam, Performer intake and lightly ported heads.Pretty straightforward swap, much more fabrication of small parts than i would have thought (change to throttle cable, radiator brackets, gas pedal brackets, etc.).

Upgraded to aluminum cross flow radiator just in case and also threw away the flex-o-lite fan. Lokar shift linkages and kickdown cables used....trans is shifting flawlessly. AOD tailshaft is a tight fit to the tunnel, going to hold off on any tunnel modifications - none have been needed yet.
Removed power steering and converted to manual via modification of the PS control valve.

Exhaust shop just installed 2.25" duals with Dynamax VT mufflers installed in place of the 2" single.

Upgraded the lap seat belts to 3 point belts from a ranger - had to weld in attachments in the upper and lower b pillar for the D ring and retractor, respectively.

Pictures mostly in chronological order, starting w/ the old 260 and ending w/ the 302.

Ok, i picked up a 66 olds dynamic 88 4 door sedan last week. Runnin, driving, nearly complete, virtually rust free, 425 2 barrel, th400. $2500, plus tax. No big grandiose plans, just a ton of small stuff and a few subtle changes. A little body work, some paint, a little updating, complete suspension overhaul and disc brake swap, and most likely an overdrive transmission. First things first, turn signal switch, wiper switch, maybe a 1 wire alternator conversion...

When I flipped the BWB last summer, I decided to pick up an SUV for more passenger room. It came down to a Tahoe or Expedition. I would've preferred the Tahoe w/an LS, but they were more $$$ than I wanted to spend.

I found this at the local Nissan dealer. It was a trade in from a family that moved here a few years ago from SD. The price on the windshield was $8990.

Well, last summer we had a hail storm come thru here and kinda ding up a lot of cars. This particular dealer used that, and promoted a "hail sale" (the Expedition was not on the lot at the time of the storm) with signs promoting it EVERYWHERE.

I give the Ex a good going over and notice that it does have slight hail damage on the roof and hood. The salesman says that there isn't a bunch of wiggle room on the price as it was marked as low as it they could go as it was ..... right.

I pointed out the damage and was prepared to walk. As we were getting in the car to go, the salesman and sales manager come back out waving us down. The sales manager asks what we would be willing to go on it, so we go inside to talk.

Off the top of my head I come up with $4600 (I had 5k to spend), out the door after tax/dealer prep/etc .... lo and behold, they said yes and even threw in 2 free oil changes!

Anyways, it's super clean on the inside, has the typical corrosion on aluminum parts from that part of the US. The dealer did put new brakes all the way around and replaced the front sway bar end links that are prone to fail on these. Overall, it's a nice ride.

2001 w/5.4, 373 gears, tow package and 100k on the clock.

I want a nice comfortable daily driver, something I can ice race in the winter, pull my atv trailer with when we go camping, and has plenty of passenger room.

It would have been nice to get into a latest gen Tahoe, but around here, they tend to be more pricey. I am working on picking up an '01 Tahoe w/325k on it come this fall when a friend decides to get a new car. He says I have 1st dibs to match whatever trade in value he is offered.

Well I guess I'll start with some back story here. The car was sitting for about 8 years, my wife hit a pole on a foggy morning on the way to ROTC boot camp. It has just been sitting up in northeastern Oklahoma since then. Then for a wedding present I talked Walt(chad's dad) to bring back down to Texas from our wedding. The car has a 351c with 4v heads, c6 and an 8 inch none posi rear. The story goes that the guys my father in law bought it from years ago was working on making it a Gt500 clone, this was back in about early or mid
90's. well they got it as a somewhat basket case and fixed it up. I'll have to find some pictures, but it was a good looking car. So to after it got to the house I began slowly working on it, money is tight. I soaked the cylinders in marvel mystery oil for two weeks, changed the plugs and wires and ran a gas can to the fuel pump and got it running.

Here's a new project I'll throw out here for those interested in old gassers. I've been staring at this thing sitting in the corner of my garage for the past 4 years and decided I better get a move on or I'll never get it done. I call it my retirement project, but really my goal is to have it nearly complete by the time I retire in, oh, 5 years or so. I've been a fan of these cars since I was about 6 or 7 years old. My Dad took me to the drags quite regularly since about age 5 ( around 1960 ). Pomona, San Gabriel, San Fernando, Irwindale on a Sunday about once a month or so. Big thrill for me, since that meant I didn't have to go to church that day.Yay!
Anyway, about the car. I acquired it 4 or 5 years ago from a buddy of mine. He had it sitting out at his place in the high desert for a while with some plans to build it. Well, that changed when he managed to score a complete vintage 60's Anglia panel (Thames) gasser out of someones garage in, I think, the Victorville area. It's extremely cool and I'm very jealous. So this Anglia sedan became available. I've always wanted one so I asked what he would take for it. He replied "Trade me a guitar for it". Since I have 20+ guitars in my collection, I said "DONE!" I traded a nice 1994 USA Fender Strat in a tweed case for the car. So, I've put away a few parts for it here and there and I've finally managed to actually get started on it. As you can see in the photos, it's just a shell on a chassis that had alredy been back halfed with a ladder bar setup with a narrowed Old/Pontiac rear end. I'm planning to keep that but add coilovers in the back. The front has an Opel front end grafted on. The jury is out on whether I'm going to keep that. I like it, but the tires stick out of the fenders. No good. If I can figure out a way to make it narrower, I'll do that. I have a complete fiberglass tilt front for it, it had fiberglass doors but I traded those for some stock steel doors.
So, over the last couple of weeks I managed to get my first real work done on it. I ordered a 10 point cage from Jegs, and tacked it into place. Now, I'm trying to learn how to weld, and I think this is a great project to learn on. BUT, the roll cage is not the place to learn (I make pretty good booger welds at this point). So, I custom fit all the cage pieces and lightly tacked it into place and I'll have a real welder finish it up for me. I have a couple of chassis guys in mind. So, this is where we are with it right now, it'll be a slow moving project, but I'll update once in a while. I know there are some gasser guys on here that will dig it!

I have this beat '96 Tahoe 4x4. 5.7, 4L60E, 3.73 open axles, front/rear sway bars. After reading so many autocross stories, I got this crazy idea to maybe try it.

My idea:

Lower it with dropped rear shackles, diesel Suburban [bigger?] torsion bars with dropped keys, dropped shocks.

22" Escalade wheels with an appropriate tire.

Urethane bushings in the sway bars front/rear.

Weight reduction: Dechrome, remove running boards, seats, any unnecessary weight, lighter exhaust system, move battery to back storage compartment.

I realise a 2wd Z51 [police] Tahoe would be a better candidate, but I have THIS $350 beater that I have put around $1,000 in making it safe and reliable.

Sounds like fun at any rate...
