    Handycap parking hang tags.

This one really makes my blood boil. My mom is 90 and uses a walker or transport chair. If we go out with her it's tough to find a parking spot. We generally use a regular spot.

Today, I see this ratty old 90's Chevy pick up with the bed full of old junk and cyclone fence. Obviously doing some clean up work in some one's yard going to the dump. Hanging from the mirror is a handy cap hang tag. Last summer I saw this Aerostar van that belong to a volunteer EMT. Had the blue light proudly mounted, stethoscope hanging right next to the handy cap hang tag from the mirror. It really frost me that that these people who can do a yard clean up or haul people on a gurney have a physical disability that they can't park more then 30' from a door. > There, now I feel better ;D

I'm with you. Its very annoying to see someone obviously not handicapped to take advantage of the system.

But when people without handicapped tags park in the handicapped spots, that really makes the blood curdle. Its not so much a problem in my region as some other places, though.

I've got a good friend that has cerebral palsy and can't walk easily. We've been out places and I've had words with lots of people who jump in the handicapped spots. They have a choice to park somewhere else, but they don't. I'm guessing laziness? People who need these spots have no choice.

I mean no disrespect to you at all because everyones story is different......but my Dad was a veteran who lost his hearing below 45% due to being a tanker in the Army. The VA allowed him to be issued a handicap parking tag for his vehicles. He caught a lot of grief because people thought nothing was wrong with him although he didnt use it all the time he did sometimes. He some leg problems but they came later in his life.....I miss him alot. When I was a punk ass kid playing with friends I hated that he made me come sit by him to hand him tools will working on his 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner...and I thought I was loosing out on this deal. Little did I know he was teaching me something I would later come to love & and give me one the coolest cars a teen could drive in high school.
If you take your mother around for her appointments & personal business you can apply for one on her behalf so she wouldnt have to go through the unnecessary difficulties when traveling. I think it is worth it to check into it......but I agree you whole heartedly it is good to get things off your chest. Later............
That steely eyed look I had behind the wheel was me trying see..........

My wife has Cerebral Palsy. In younger days, she seldom used handicapped spots. But we lived at a complex with terrible parking, so she asked for and got a handicapped spot. Every night someone was parked there, someone not entitled. One night I had enough, and got my beater 73 Chevy pickup with a 10,000 pound weight distributing trailer hitch. The two week old Escort then moved, although not the way the owner would have liked. I got arrested for that one, but no one ever parked there again.

Around here, most of the people using handicap parking spaces were given their priveleges because they are OBESE. no shit. You can get a handicap sticker for eating yourself into disabled status. There's something wrong with that.

I had a motorcycle accident in college where I spent the next year learning to walk (take note Keith Turk) - got rear ended at night by a drunk driver with no headlights... anyways, I had a hang tag and I used it during the time I was using a walker and crutches later, but when I switched to the cane - I gave the tag back. Didn't feel right to me to use it after I was able to get around a little better.

Mom has the permit and so does my dad...78 and 80 respectivley...dad's lost three toes to diabetes and mom's had both hips done and is hoping for a new knee for christmas. And although I do see folks abusing the parking spots, for the most part - here in sw ohio - they are open and available and nice to use for sure.... When they first started this handicap stuff...I bitched...thought it was a waste. But now...am I getting old? or just more like my folks? wait...My sister is 58 with twin boys 17 yrs old. Steve is fine, but Jimmy had a brain bleed and has been parapalegic almost since birth. She will call the cops in a heartbeat over a handicap space. I will tell her about your tow job...she will really love it...

There's this woman next town over from me who must weigh at least 400 pounds. They actually send an empty full size bus with a handy cap lift and 2 employees just to pick her up and take her some where. You should see the bus tilt when they pick her up!

My Wife had a Lung removed and She just Parks in regular Spots.

But, yesterday I saw a Teenager pull up front and run into the store. I felt better when she ran into the door that did'nt open fast enough. Karma Rules...

I never knowingly park in a handycap spot. If I think I may have I get out and check, won't even pull in just to drop someone off. I'm so used to doing this that when my inlaws got in a bad car accident I drove them around for quite a while and would always pull into the mall etc. and use a normal parking spot, even though neither of them could barely walk. Didn't even think about it until probably the second or third time I took them out, then it suddenly donned on me that I should be using that spot for them! Felt like a dumbass, lol

                          Re: Handycap parking hang tags.

I've had enough of the smug, self-righteous jerks who judge other people before they've walked a mile in their shoes. As for the ones that are too obese and need a card; I wouldn't trade their problems for a handicap placard...

Oh, and something you might not know - I've loaded up an old guy's truck for him to haul to the dump. He has a placard and at the transfer station they'll unload it for him.... seemed like a nice thing to do at the time; too bad there's other self-righteous jerks out there who incorrectly judge people like him.

And finally, statistics says that eventually your sins will catch up with you.... so whether it's smacking a door; or getting audited because you're so dishonest.... it works itself out... and to those whose blood pressure raises because of all this - was it really worth shortening your life by being stressed over someone else's sins? Really, there are several medical studies which say that if you stress out over little stuff you'll shorten your life.

Doctor said I could get one when I got my hip replacements, I declined. Walking is good for hip replacements, it is also good for fat, lazy asses. They should be used by people who really need them, it pisses me off when some clown uses one 'cause they are fat and/or lazy.

my aunt actually got one for being obese before my mom got one. my mom has had 9 back surgeries and up until about a year ago she had to use a walker for about 5-6 years. she still has use it from time to time though. my mom wasnt too happy about that. i have no sympathy for fat people unless they actually have something wrong with them (thyroid problems etc.)
