Would you buy a used C5 Z06 (they really sell for about $25k) or the nice old musclecar of your choice ($25k gets most any clean Road Runner, SS396 car, etc)?

IF I was spending 25K in one fell swoop it would be on a newer car. I'd prefer a Solstic over a Corvette though. I would rather spend much less on a muscle car and spend the balance making it the way I want. Interior, color, power train, etc. I'd be surpised to find a muscle car exactly how I'd want it for $25k.Escaped on a technicality.Comment

If I had the cash, I'd be tempted to buy a not quite as nice muscle car and a C4 Corvette in better shape than the one I used to have.

The z06 is a heck of a car - I must admit that working for ford - but I could never own one.

depends. are you saying "a corvette or a musclecar" or are you saying "a new car or a muscle car"?
there's no way i would have a corvette. i don't like sitting on the floor. so in that case, hands down - a musclecar.
if i could have a new car, you might be able to get a mustang GT for $25,000.00. performance, dependability, decent gas milage, comfort, looks - everything.

In the sprit of the question I voted for the musclecar. As fantastic as late model Vettes are, and as goofy as I am for Vettes, the newer fuel injected "civilized" ones just don't give me that same visceral satisfaction as simple "pre-smog" car that I really feel "connected" to. Plus in my case I've never really warmed up to the C5's-they're just ugly to me. C4's-yes, C6's-yes, but not C-5's. If I had 25K to drop I would get a nice LT1 C4 and a 69 Malibu-then I'd have it all covered. 25K will still buy you a nice chrome bumper C3 with some change to spare. If I have to choose between a modern car an old one for a "fun" car I'll take the old one every time.Comment

Having worked substantially on zo6's this is a very tough call for me. It really depends on your purpose. I love classics, but for performance, especially RRacing, you can't be a zo6. They handle incredible, put the stiffer aftermarket springs, wheels, tires, c6zo6 shocks on 4 corners, lower it 1" inch, headers corsa catback and cold air, you've got one nasty car.
Take it a step further, put heads, a mild 220-224 cam, and you have a 400+hp 11.6 1/4 mile car.
For a waxer general cruiser, the classic all the way.Comment
