Growing up when I did, the concept of a SBC at 468 CI is unbelievable. To spin ANYTHING to 9K seems impossible. I remember when 5K was "wound up". I'd hate to be on the controls of THAT dyno - I'd feel responsible if it scattered - which seems relatively possible!

Sounds remarkably similar to the in-car camera shots they show during the Cup races.

There is no sweeter automotive melody than a V8 at full song. Shoot, there may not be a sweeter melody than that at all.

One of my dreams is to build a car one day that will be able to maintain 3/4 of that RPM... through a manual trans... for as long as I want.

My small block is shifted at 9800. Scott parks shifts his at 10,200. That is the new reality of the small block. The only way to move air through the motor is by reving the living crap out of it.

...and I used to think my 406 was screaming at 7200!

I took my Pontiac buddy for a ride in the Chevelle years ago. He was watching the tach as I slowly brought it up to about 5 grand. Then I floored it, and brought it up to around 7000 before I shifted... you should have seen his eyes!
In a Pontiac 455 with mostly stock components, what you do at 5 grand is shift!
Still makes me smile to think back on that.
