So Why Did Dixon Lie?

Like a lot of you I watched the rain delayed qualifying at the Winternationals Saturday. When Larry Dixon got into some real bad tire shake he shut off and coasted through the lights. Upon being interviewed after the run he said "it shook so bad I shut it off". When told that was going to be his only chance to qualify you could see the color drain from his face.

As a veteran racer he should have known he was only going to get this one chance due to the weather not if NHRA said so or not.

So later that day and Sunday he says the mags and coils failed due to the tire shake. Funny how in the replays you NEVER see the throttles open again.

At least they (Dixon and AJ) got their stories straight! "A wire" ...AJ says it was a ground that shook loose, Dixon says coil wire. LOL The replay cleary shows that he never tried to recover. Great to see that Mike Dunn didn't call him to the carpet in the interview! It should play out like a MasterCard commercial

Tony Schumaker said it best when he stated the weather was bad and clarified with Graham Light the old 2007 rules no longer apply to rain shortened qualifying and that he would be making it to the finish line under power no matter what since it was looking like a one shot deal.
I felt the same way wathing the run, the replays and the interview.
cockiness wont get you in the field!

I was thinking the exact same thing, it was a screw up plain and simple so fess up to it like he'd already done on TV in front of Millions! Sounds like a lack of communications in the new team, the announcement had been made well before his run that it would be a one shot qualifying attempt. I'm still thinking this will be another Schumacher year, I don't think there's anyone out there that can match up to his Ice cold concentration and coolness in the Top Fuel ranks and he's an excellent PR spokesperson to boot! I just checked the NHRA site, rained out again and they'll try it again tomorrow!
