What happened to the Hot Rod Solstice?

I was looking through an old Hot Rod today at work and read one of the buildup articles. Does Hot Rod have it? Did GM keep it?

It exists under the General's watch.

They have seriously considered scrapping it... seems it's a bit "TOO" much of a car...

It is alive and well. I will admit, it should not be driven by inexperienced people (and with the restricted driver list, it won't be). But, if you want something fun to drive, I don't think I have driven anything else that compares with this car. I have driven faster cars at specific things, like drag racing or circle track, but this thing does so many things right. Plus, if you don't mind the rough idle from the cam, no heat or A/C, and little things like that, it would be a perfect daily driver.

I'm curious how it handles at high speed-- with that short wheelbase, does it skate around?

We redesigned the front fascia to eliminate lift at high speed, and added a splitter. In the rear, we built a spolier with a adjustable wicker. We have never topped it out, but through about 165mph, it is solid as a rock.

I wouldn't mind having an LS2 Solstice as a driver!

An LS7 powered one would be insane! I hope they don't scrap it!

Love the term "Restricted Driver list"

Thanks for the update by the way... the car is incredible...

Keith ( and like everyone else, I'm glad they kept it... )

I was the guy on the starting line in the blue shirt when that video was taken.

Something tells me that car will be crushed long before it ends up in private hands. The fact it still exists probably has the lawyers twitching.

In that vid clip, that thing appears to either have started in second gear, or it has terribly high rear gears.

                          Fun.

makes me want to build one. Wonder what they go for used. Needs a turbo to make it really scary. ;)
