Gas cap seal. Where do I find one?

Man, I am in need of a rubber seal for my gas cap. That thing spills gas all over the place when I take a right turn. So, 2 questions for you. First, where can I get a gas cap seal for my '64 Ranchero?

Second. What are some things that you do or don't do to cater to the way you have to drive your old hoopty? Are you like me and try to make left turns so your gas doesn't come sloshing out?

I had a nasty coolant leak for awhile in the Mustang. If I got the RPM's up above 3000, it would start puking the green stuff. I babied it around for a month or so until I finally found the leak and fixed it.

My GMC always tells me when it's time for a new gas cap! Right turn=fuel smell!

My starter is getting weak so I always park nose down.

I'm with you on the gas cap thing. I keep off the throttle when the tank is full.

We made a better gasket for my buddies car with a chunk of rubber and a utility knife. Ugly, but it seals.

My Montego's filler is behind the license plate, so it gets a new cap once a year weather it needs it or not. Otherwise every time I hit the accelerator, a gallon or two hits the pavement.

My brother had a car with a really nasty rad leak. His solution was to slowly replace the old radiator with a new one made entirely out of Barr's Stop Leak.

Right now, my car has no turn signals. So, I just pick the straightest or least busy route I can to get from place to place.

That seal is pretty thin, I would think a piece of rubber innertube would work well. I've also seen rubber tubing stretched over the filler neck to make a better seal. Me, I just get a new cap, they're cheap enough.

Brian, I've been tracking your oil pan and pickup and it looks like you will have it tomorrow. It sat in CT for about 3 days for some reason.

Same here on the Chev/GMC trucks on right turns. Nothing like getting it all cleaned up nice, gassing it up for a ride and taking a hard right and splashing gas down the side of the truck. >

The gascap on the side of these cars is one that is part of the body. Not a filler door and separate cap. The cap is the body. A new one is about $100. Not exactly change I have laying around right now. Maybe i will try the rubber tube trick.

Try going to a big local lawn/garden equipment shop, they may have something.

Or... you can stroll into some big chain, pop the top off a gas tank, peel the rubber out and steal one, but I don't condone that.

I got mine off my pressure washer's gas cap, so I'm only stealing from myself. The pressure washer doesn't take right turns anyway...

I've done the innertube trick on my Chevy II (similar type cap) and it works great. Just use what is left of your old gasket as a template.
