A pair of 4-Speed Volaire Wagons.

Landlord picked up about a dozen old Mopars from some old fella's back Yard/Garden along with an Orange VW Bettle. Because they were parked on Dirt,they were basicly rotted to Hell from the Rockers on down. Yet,despite the years of laying around doing nothing,3 of the things actually started and moved around under their own power. The majority of the junk were Aspens & Volaires. All but 3 had Slant 6's,while two of the Wagons had 4-Speeds :o. It's been awhile since I've seen one with a 'Stick. He paid $500 for all of 'em. I've got dibs on the Slant-6's ;D. Just what I 'need',some more Engines : ;D. ~J/W-006.

Find a Mirada and Diplomat, cram in the 4-speeds and enjoy it. ;D

I think thats the era of 4 speed that was actually a 3 speed and a huge overdrive in Fourth. Doing everything they could to get the best mileage. I knew a guy who bought a brand new Aspen wagon, Leaning Tower Of Power, with 4 speed, and zero options. Green with poverty caps.

Yep, a lot of car had OD 4 spds in the mid to late 70's. When I started my own business, my first truck was a 77 Econoline E150, 300 I6 with a 4 speed. When I got it, 3rd & 4th lever was flipped, so when I went into 3rd from second, it was a steep drop in RPM. I remember thinking when I fist drove it, what 4th was going to be like! After I flipped the arm, it was OK. Still have the 4 spd from the van along with the factory shifter and a Hurst replacement because the factory linkage kept getting hung up. No fun crawling under the van in rain storm.

I date a girl from Hershey that had a brown 6 cyl/4spd tan gut aspen wagon. Man that brings back memories...
Like hiding under her parents bed naked while her uncle stopped in to make sure I wasnt there while they were away.. He was the police chief and hated my Guts! :o

The answer is yes. The OD 4 speed was an 833 case w/od fitted inside. My understanding is that they weren't too stout but OK for LSR if you don't bang 'em too hard.

Last night,I was reading Hot-Rod....the issue with Steve M's Brown Slant-6-powered(Clifford Hyper-Pak...) Duster. With that Car,Steve used an Overdrive 4-Speed. He commented that the 3-4 Shift was 'brutal'...and 'you had to peel your Face off of the Windsheild.' Meanwhile,Jack(That's the Landlord's name....)said: "Give me $500,and you can have whatever you want off them",so,I guess I'll be busy next weekend ;D. The Orange VW has already been sold for $400 :o,while one of the Wagons & an Aspen Sedan have been set aside. More 'Slants' is alway's a good thing ;D ;)! ~J/W-OO6.
