I think Royal Purple has the hypoid lube in it, read the side of the bottle. Remember it is something you can have too much of.

you can have too much? should i use the purple or regular fluid and just add the additive?

Too much posi lube will cause the clutchs to do something bad. Look at the bottle, it should say. Regular and the additive is a garentee but I'd check.

Is it clutched or gear drive? If its a clutch or cone style, you need the lube. Gear drives.... don't know.

A Trac Lock is a clutch-style limited-slip and does need friction modifier (I don't think "hypoid" is the answer here...that's for the r&p...all automotive gear lube is hypoid gear lube...correct me if I'm wrong).
A Detroit Truetrac is a gear style and should not require friction modifier.
Detroit is not the manufacturer of the Trac Lock...so which do you really have?

I just recall that line from my '64 service manual, not sure if hypoid is right either. However yeah, you need the modifier for clutch or cone limited slips.
