    Re: challanger disaster

I remember that quite clearly, was walking across the school commons to get a late morning breakfast - and someone told me the challenger blew up... I thought they were joking.

I was eating lunch getting ready for afternoon kindergarten with my mom we were watching on a tiny 8-10 inch couter top black and white tv.

I didn't really know what the heck happened, but she got upset immedately and shut off the tv.

I was in 3rd grade. They brought out a TV for all of us to watch the launch.
Looking back, im not sure if that was a good idea at the time.

I remember exactly. I was a lot attendant for Budget rent-a-car and I went to the local Buick/Olds/Pontiac dealer to pick up a customer. When I went into the waiting room to look for them, they were all crowded around the TV watching, I couldn't believe my eyes.
Just groovin' to my own tune.

It was my 39th. birthday. A bunch of us from EPA had just walked into Chili's to have lunch and celebrate and found everyone huddled around the TV in the bar. Sure ruined the celebration. I'll bet the families still hurt.

7th grade. I remember one of our teachers made it pretty far in the "selection process" and was obviously shaken about the concept that he could have died on the space shuttle.

I was five. I tried to get my mom to believe that I saw it happen out the window.

I think I got a spanking for telling a lie.

I too remember it well. I guess I have the most Junkie approved memory. Mom was driving me to middle school. In her daily driver '69 Corvette Convertible. M21 4 speed, 350hp 350. We were listening to it on the radio.

I just happened to stay home from school that day. My Mom and I watched it on TV. I remember her crying because she was a teacher and it was pretty close to her heart.

I remember thinking (because I loved space travel and stuff) that it was just impossible that something like that could happen....

I was in 10th grade, and I remember it like it was yesterday. I was walking through the cafeteria, and I remember some teachers talking like something really bad had happened. We talked about it some in school, and I can remember going home and watching the coverage with my Dad.

                            Very sad!

I was on Final to Hancey Army Heliport and freind in the tower said the Shuttle had just gone down...

Shutting down the Cobra that day was really wierd.. here I was sitting in a bit of aviation history getting ready to go play with the High Tech Apache...and the next thing you know the High Tech stuff wasn't working so well...

It's very easy to forget how dangerous certain things can be... we simply become used to doing the impossible once we've done it over and over again... But hanging a ton of weight on the Nose of a space ship and puuutt'n it out to space is some really incredible doo doo.... and Serious business...
