    Tell me something GOOD

I'm so tired of hearing that the sky is falling...

Think about this for a minute... and it's not got to be You... it's just got to be Good... maybe the best thing you ever did or accomplished... or something you simply feel good about...

For example... this is a small thing... but it's wierd cool... My son Chris and I were racing the Camaro that first year and while driving hwy74 on the way to the track we came across a lady with a flat tire under a bridge... We stopped and changed her tire for her... not a biggie... but I showed my son what's right... So for the last 10yrs everytime I go under that bridge I think of the lesson and smile to myself... The woman was grateful... but for me it's lasted many years past her gratitude...

So what do you have to say? Give us something fun or cool... or simply Good...

Keith ( if the only thing you know is that the sky is falling... you might want to get a Helmet )

    Re: Tell me something GOOD

This past Saturday my church group went to the Cass community center and made a few hundred sandwiches to feed the homeless. That kitchen serves 1200 meals a day!

They also have a program where they pick up old tires (plenty of those in abandoned lots around Detroit), cut them up and make door matts out of them that they sell to help fund the shelters. They also shred paper - and old xrays which contain silver.

They are working on ways to turn the tread of the tires (they only use the sidewalls for the matts) as shingles for industrial use - I thought that was a great idea - I mean think about how long a steel belted tire would last as a roof shingle!

People helping people - that's a always a good thing.
There's always something new to learn.

The company I work for just made a huge sale.....It gives me and my brother job security for at least the next 5 years.

It isn't really something I did....but it has changed a lot in my family's life.

      Good news.

The 83 year young lady who lives across the street told me how she fell on the ice while taking out her garbage and it took her 10 minutes to get up. (sorry that's a bad thing) I finally convinced her to put the can outside her garage and I will drag it to the curb and return it after its empty. Her response was how can I repay you. I said a smile and thanks is all I need. Little things make the world a better place. ;D

I'll be visiting my dad in S. Jersey this weekend. It's my birthday Saturday, we're going to the Philadelphia Int'l Auto Show on Sunday, and watch the Superbowl that night. Monday I get to drive back to VT.

I'm really looking forward to the weekend. We have a good time at the show, and some great food at the Reading Terminal. It's also one of the few times a year I get to see him.

A group of friends and I delivered a pile of Christmas gifts to kids who otherwise would not have got anything for Christmas. Someone else bought the gifts, we just took them to the kids. The light in their eyes was irreplacable. The vibe I got was that it wasn't the Spiderman pajamas and dolls and soccer balls that made them so happy, it was the feeling that someone cared about them.

                  Re: Tell me something GOOD

                  - Couple of days before Christmas '08, a '57 Chrysler arrived in my garage. Felt good having such a nice carmodel added to the stock. Currently I'm rebuilding all the suspensionparts. Car is on stands right now.
                  - 2 weeks ago I scored a nice old lathe. Something I've wanted for years, finally got one. I'm in the process of cleaning it up and painting it a bit so it looks good again.
                  - I've got a 392 Hemi, disassembled, but already bored and honed. New parts are waiting on the shelf for some time already. Still need to clean up the rest of the motor so I can start assembly.
                  - Somewhere next week I'll be able to pick up my stroker engineblock I dropped off at the machine shop a few months ago for boring&honing and some other work. When I get it back I can also start assembly of that motor. The 8-71 for it is patiently waiting to be mounted on top of that one.
                  - In a couple of weeks there will also be a '57 Plymouth arriving at my garage which I bought some months ago. Doesnt't run, dash is wasted, interior is shot, has front end damage, some rust in the floors. Major project car.

So... slowly but steadily I'm burying and surrounding myself with all kinds of unfinished projects... How's that for "good"? ;) Life is good! :D

We got the ball harvester working great on the robot last night. We had run into problems with the previous design Saturday, and a couple of the students were pretty bummed....but we talked about ways to redesign it and make it work better, we tried out the new idea, and all is well.

This is a sophomore on the team who worked with me to get the job done.

a few years ago the wife and i were in the car headed somewhere (the beach i think)a car turned in front of us and there on the trunk of this car sat a womens purse, i sped up flashing my lights and honking the horn but the driver just ignored me, bout that time the purse slid off the trunk into the road, i stopped picked it up opened it to find a shit load cash, i found a ladys drivers license with her address so the wife and i turned around and went to her house and waited about 30 minutes, sure enough the car i had been following pulled up in the driveway and this women got out with a look of panic on her face..turns out there was 18k in her purse, she was giving to her son for a down payment on a house, we got a thank you, a hug, and kiss on the cheek..it was a lot of money but it was also the right thing to do

                          Re: Tell me something GOOD

Great thread, Keith. And there's SO much right with my life, starting with being married to exactly the right woman - on the third try.

Also, I have a stable and adequate retirement income - many, of course, do not. And a shop full of (mostly) interesting cars. At least interesting to me.

Somehow, the story that comes to me is this one -
I was at work at EPA. A guy came up to me and said "Hey, did you hear the one about the ###### who....". Somehow, this immediately ticked me off and I stopped him in mid-sentence. I said "Look, I just don't want to hear this crap. It's wrong and you know it". I felt good about doing that all day - but it gets better. The next day the same guy came up to me, apologized, and thanked me for straightening him out. He promised that he would work to eliminate this kind of crap from his mind. I was SO proud of myself.

And my new aluminum trailer ramps showed up yesterday - the steel ones were ball busters! Even better - I picked these ones as a result of input from you guys as a result of a thread on here. They look great and I'll try 'em out soon.

                          So much

                          Dan

I have lots of these stories. I don't know why, but these situations always seem to find me and test me. But that's not what I'm going to tell you in this post.
