When a team has to play down to their potential, because the other team sucks. I don't know if you guys read this or not , but these two high school basket ball teams played and the score ended up being 100-0, now everyone is calling it shameful because the team that won didn't play down to the other team. And on top of it the Coach of the winning team got fired. What ever happened to competition, they are even saying that the team that won needs to forfeit the game, basically penalizing these young girls for paying such a good game. These girls were taught to play Basketball, and they do it very well, so why are they being penalized because the other team sucked. As I see it the losing team should have forfeited at half time.

The world of kid's sports can be bizarre...and suck. Said as a soccer dad.
But it means being out of the house and participating in real-world acitivity and possibly winding up in some real-world issues. How it is...... -

We've raised an entire generation of pussies. No hurt feelings, everyone makes the team, nobody gets a failing grade, a child's self esteem is all-important, nobody gets hurt, blah blah blah.
Here's what it is: the difference between Men and Women. And I'm talking "John Wayne," not "Alan Alda."
Moms are always worried about their kid getting hurt, and more importantly getting their FEELINGS hurt. And they want to do something about it--mainly, making the situation that hurt the feelings go away.
Dads hate seeing their kids get hurt feelings too, but while mommy is wiping little Timmy's tears and getting him a comfort cookie, dad is telling him to suck it up, because that's the way life is. It's not fair, and the sooner you recognize that, the sooner you can act accordingly and do something about it so you aren't in this situation again.
A lot of people will hate what I'm about to say: There are a lot more women and moms as principals, on school boards, in news rooms, etc. then there were in years past. And there are a lot more boys being raised by single moms than there ever were.
The result is firing a coach who's team pummeled another team, rather than telling the other team "You need to get better." Come on--how does a team suck so bad that they can't score ONE BASKET?!

I have to disagree on this one. I read about this in the paper. The girls team that lost came from a school that specializes in helping children that have learning problems. I remember reading that there were only 20 girls in the entire school.
But I guess the larger point is that kids sports isn't just about winning and losing. I played basketball football in high school and thank God I had some coaches that used those sports to teach me a little bit about life too. Win with humility, lose with grace. Yes, kids should be taught to play all-out to win, just as kids that are losing should be taught to never give up--even if they are getting killed at halftime. That's why coaches should be able to see the bigger picture and lead their team to pull back when the victory is well in hand so as not to humiliate the opponent. If we're going to say the coach that egged his kids on to beat another team 100 to nothing did nothing wrong, then I don't see how we can complain in the future about kids not having respect for one another.

I do remember playing sports and being told to hold back a few times when we were up on the other team. It was usually during those times we tried things we wouldn't normally do, like seeing how a different guy would handle a position he didn't normally play.Comment
