Re: Monster Trucks = Death Machines
Saw it on the news last night. The guy was from about 10 miles from here too. I'm just wondering how you walk in front of a monster truck. You think you'd hear or see it. I dunnno. Sad though for his family.I R Bob

Re: Monster Trucks = Death Machines
Man, been reading the stories posted on cnn and other news sites. Seems like a case of a guy being just a little too comfortable with his surroundings, placing himself too close to the action. He'd been around these things for nearly 16 years, probably just fell into the rut of doing things and for a split second was not as self aware as he needed to be.
All this junk can bite you in the ass, but the monster truck world is not doing themselves any favors lately. I wonder what the insurance companies are going to be doing with their event rates now?

Re: Monster Trucks = Death Machines
I went to one show once, at the local indoor sports arena and sat there thinking about that. These guys did not have a lot of room to accelerate and slow down in and the front row of fans was awfully close to the action. At one point a driver was very hard on the brakes to avoid hitting the wall in front of the seating area, but it all seemed to be routine. I'm sure there are some intense driver meetings before the event...
Not so at some events where cars and spectators mingle...I rode along with a guy once at Rt. 66 in San Bernardino where I was cringing the whole time, sure this throttle-happy fool was going to hit somebody. I finally saw a gal and her little kid run into there, but it was by a trash-cart driver who was flirting with a pedestrian instead of watching where he was going. They were knocked down but not injured.
I've been to two events where cars and aircraft mingle, and the aircraft owners howled the whole time. No mere hot rods should be allowed to get close to their precious factory-built machinery....Comment

In other news this morning a Fort Lewis soldier was killed after being hit by a forklift. So tell me, other then a sensationalist news media's focus what's the difference? Which one is more dead? Which one causes more deaths? There are people with an agenda who will use these incidents to try to ban monster truck rallys.... and who knows, with enough people proclaiming the shame of it all - they might succeed.Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

Re: Monster Trucks = Death Machines
Wow, good thing nothing like that happened at the show we went to. I took the boys on Saturday night to see the Monster Jam, worst thing that happened is a tire broke off one of the trucks and hit the wall. And it does explain why it seemed that the trucks weren't really being hammered on as much as in the past. I mean Grave Digger didn't even wreck the truck.
;D Anyway it's sad to here about the kid, but as for the promoter, well if your dumb enough to step in front of a monster truck, well........

I agree, accidents happen and people die all the time but its kinda hard to swallow hearing about a 6 year old kid sitting in the crowd with his dad.Comment
