I did get the new issue of HRM, been reading the Camaro story....WOW!
and I got a kick out of Keith's welding skills...he did warn us....

it's easier to see if you go buy the magazine, though

I suspect, better than mine. As my vision went in the dumper, my already shaky welding skills went too. Still, I can sorta do some stuff, but hire big stuff like cage welding.
Don't let 'em get you down, Keith. I bet your welding has been faster than theirs!

Don't worry Keith, I can't TIG any better, but at least I don't get pictures of my skills printed for all the world to see!

That's street rod stuff... or street car stuff... or stuff where you care about the "Look" rather then the Function...
We're way more into function at Bville... especially when you have 2 weeks to accomplish 4 weeks worth of work... ( because you procrastinated )

Keith, the only reason it didn't leak was because the weld was ON TOP of the box! ;D
Besides, who's looking at your welding when Tonya's legs are there to look at.... :o

I thought the box was very practical- it did not leak. the pump was another story!!!

Since I've never met Keith and Tonya in person, I wasn't gonna say anything about that :)

What we haven't talked about was How tight that thing was going in... seriously... we're talking 1/4 of an inch play... bar to Bar...
Freiburger gave me the demensions and said he'd measured it exactly.... he wasn't kidding... wow... seriously it was VERY close to being smooshed a bit to fit in the car... but when it was leveled it fit perfectly.
Oh and neither one of us knew the size of the block ice they sell in Wendover NV.... so we swag'ed it and hit it Perfectly... a block had 1/4" clearance on the sides before it touched...

Hey anyone who does not just hire it done is ok with me, Its the flaws and it still works are where the greatest storys come from.

HAHA purplecobra beat me to the pump part. a holley blue doesn't work a long time with water FYI or was it a holley black?
anyways, after observing the efficiency of the intercooler on that particular setup, we could have done just fine with a thimble for a reservoir. There was a dual pump system on it, flowing fine, and there was still ice in the cooler after a pass. WTF? intercoolers I am used to, will boil 20 gallons of water in an 8-second pass on the drag strip!

probably has something to do with only making 11 psi boost? big difference....
KeithTurk

When we had it just right we had 5 10lb blocks of ice and all that was left after a pass would normally not fill my cup for a soda pop...
Your dealing with tanks that are WAY to small... LOL or pumps that actually work...

Keith, I think I'm dealing with intercoolers that are WAY more efficient. I think your version 2.0 dual pump setup was pumping fine...
Best I ever saw, Jon Mihovetz' cougar (2000+hp modular ford). At the time it was something like 15 gallons of coolant for the air-water intercoolers. He had pressure reliefs on the system because, when finished, the ice water was literally boiling. He'd dump it on the ground and have to warn people not to stand near the puddle.... from block ice to boiling in 7 seconds - now THAT is thermal efficiency.
Hubers run about 10 gal of coolant, single Precision intercooler, theirs runs a little cooler than the Mihovetz setup but it's still too hot to put your hand in after a trio of true street passes.
Jim - I don't know anything about roots-style intercoolers, do you think the low boost contributed to what we observed there? The water in the HRM camaro setup was still ice cold, with a bit of ice leftover. From what I observed, the pumps were moving a lot of fluid. It just wasn't heating up - I would have thought just the heat from the engine soaking into the intercooler, would do more than that. the guys spent a good deal of time making sure they had a good pump setup, ice, a strainer etc. I don't think the ice was clogging the flow during the runs... was definitely a mystery for me.

Temperature increase is sort of proportional to pressure increase when you compress a gas (air in this case), so I would expect to see a huge difference in temperature between a system that makes 11 psi boost and one that makes 20 or 30 or so.

that makes a lot of sense to me, the systems I am talking about are 35-40psi and beyond. Hubers car runs 40psi.
Just looking at the design of the roots style intercooler though, seemed to me like the air passing through it didn't spend as much time in the intercooler (short path) as a typical air-water setup on a centrifugal or turbo setup.

Well considering last time I saw keith weld there was a diet coke in one hand, I think it may be twice as good with two hands, still not saying much, I've seen those welds.

actually the welding on it wasn't "That" bad... course it wasn't what any here would consider "pretty or that Good"... in other words you most likely would have refused to pay a professional to do that quality of work... But most of you would have been at least happy that it didn't leak... I trusted it so much I never even tested it... cause I knew it wouldn't leak...
Fun part is y'all got to tease me about it... and I've seen Several of your guys welding... Green Junk need to show you pictures of the headers he put together... yeah... Someone has pictures of that engine bay as a whole... WOW...

the engine bay was well sorted. and I will say I was in a hurry to build the headers. Done them in 8 hrs. Had I had 6 years for every project like you in your semi-retired state I'm sure the welds would have been better, lol. Oh did I mention I had to do it with a MIG. Sorry turk, i had to jump on the band wagon here, it was just too easy...lol

The single greatest moment revolving around the tank and it's welds was when Keith pulled it out of the box and asked me what I thought. I said, "well it's not pretty but..." at which point Tanya interrupts and says "will it hold water?" at which point I said. "With that much weld it HAS to"...
Just busting your chops Keith. It worked great.
