Store-Bought Cars? MT Makes a Judgement Call

I have no doubt that the porsche was the easiest most refine car to drive fast around that track. However it's BORING!! I mean 120k can buy a lot more car than a fast beetle.
According to this data http://www.realperformancemustangs.c...at-laguna-seca
It's only .2 seconds faster than a LS Boss Mustang. Which costs significantly less than half a new 911, sounds a hell of a lot better, and something you can get parts for at NAPA.
The fact they said the zr1 "underperformed" should tell you something.Powertour off/on since 2002

But isn't that whole presentation sort of like Top Gear? Two guys, Here's what we did, here's what we came out with, and here's what we decided.
And they did try to add some credence to it with their pro driver. I've got no problem with that. I'll bet the fastest car was the fastest car.
But Best Driving Car? That's subjective. I've got the best driving car - mine. Red. Best for me.Charter member of the Turd NuggetsComment

I belive the porsche was a good vote.
changing wheelbase is a huge thing for them.
the brz showing up is no surpise..imagine if german mentality took on the design. I bet it could take first someday.
all predicted, by my own past..the boxer even mountedin an asshole chassis takes care of a freak amount of physics just by existing.
I saw an episode where they hard mounted the rear bottom shock mount, and STILL went around the race track. took a whole realm of geometry away. I relate as I have a subaru that resembles bmw back end (not like post 1990 at all)..had to weld everything, then refine. I was surprised. they need to be animal in irs. Cars just don't like that typically. It is easier to make an animal , I say that in another way for lack of discipline. Even subaru made a super car in other words..and they just don't freaking care about the reality of much larger realms of handling. they'd rather drift kiddy crowd..too bad the boxer helps them that much.

I even got a tin can that loves beyond 100.Last edited by Barry Donovan; August 23, 2012, 03:48 PM.Previously boxer3main

How many teenaged boys have that much of a shitpot full of money, like, they'll buy one anyhow? Just sayin'Originally posted by mlcraven View PostFerrari wouldn't send a model -- any model -- for the competition?
I decided long ago that the market MT targets with these tests is teenage boys.
But MT is not a get-dirty publication, more like math professors.Charter member of the Turd NuggetsComment

Car fanboys, not people who actually build, modify, and know them intimately because they have had almost everything apart on it, is what that magazine is geared towards. The comments are comedy gold. Someone that thinks Vettes are plastic crap havent been in one since 1990. Of course its just someone who parrots what they have read, not what they have actually done. I run into that online quite often, the kids who read those magazines grow up to be the guy who takes it to a shop to get the plugs changed and the tires rotated, and he might own some tools, but not nearly as many as most on here.
For a fraction of the cost of any car in that article one of us could build something that would suck the headlights out of them, and splatter the drivers brains against the door glass. It really isnt that difficult to make something go and turn, but people like that think stone stock is the only way to go. Probably because they are afraid of taking it apart and dont know how it all works let alone how it goes back together.Comment

part of it feels like a lifestyle magazine-and i a small way i like it...but as long as they dont cater to the gold chain crowd,,,they must keep HR sprinkled with modesty to keep it real......with real guys cars built on a paycheck...
we all love the Poteets and the Chapouris et al...but they will still need to feature "lesser' cars to entice me into another 2 yrs sub....
sorry for the double post guys...........it makes me sound like i am on a rant lol"IGNORANCE SHOULD BE EFFIN PAINFUL"
