I'm thinking about buying a moser rear axle housing and axles for my car, but my friend who is a pretty reliable source said moser isn't any good. I wanna get a second opinion though just to be sure, so let me know what you think about Moser.
What is your opinion on Moser?

ive never had an issue with anything ive used from them.... been building custom axles for 20 years... -
I've got a Moser spool, axles, and c-clip eliminator in my Chevelle... they seem to be fine quality... but 33 spline axles can handle a lot more power/ torque than my car hit them with - even with the trans brake.
I have not seen or heard any negative feedback about the aftermarket housings they sell, so I assumed they were good.
I wonder what made your feel they weren't good pieces? One bad experience, several bad pieces, or bad customer service experience(s) ?Comment

I see these questions and look at location in replies.
you got the huge giant rocky mountains of oklahoma, and the abyss of muddy farm fields of arizona replying with
"they are great"
if your locale has a stress that kills them (I know maine kills any axle) .. just go for a good deal.
flat lands think sideways inline fives make rally cars...of course aftermarket is almost always simply spectacular.Previously boxer3main

So for the guys that have troubles understanding, I'll translate...
He looks at the location of the person that responds to the OP's question...Originally posted by boxer3main View PostI see these questions and look at location in replies.
Here he is referring to me and bulletproof by describing where we live and saying that we say Moser axles are Great.......you got the huge giant rocky mountains of oklahoma, and the abyss of muddy farm fields of arizona replying with
"they are great"
Here is saying if you live in an area that tends to be harsh on axles, don't worry about who you get them from just look for a good deal......if your locale has a stress that kills them (I know maine kills any axle) .. just go for a good deal.
This is why I call him the Riddler.......flat lands think sideways inline fives make rally cars...

Basically saying aftermarket is almost always better than the oem.......of course aftermarket is almost always simply spectacular.Comment

Naw TC, let me try.
As Oklahoma has no Rockies and Arizona little mud, someone's being a bit sarcastic here. I think that Boxer is suggesting that neither location is tough on axles therefore is not somewhere you'd want to get your opinions from.Originally posted by boxer3main View PostI see these questions and look at location in replies.

I think he means "if your locale does not have a stress on them that kills them (then just go for the good deal). I don't remember any place in Maine (it's been a long time) that would hurt axles unless it was a rust issue, but the state is apparently being suggested as a place where you'd want to look for qualified opinions.if your locale has a stress that kills them (I know maine kills any axle) .. just go for a good deal.
I believe Audi is being referred to here, that "flat-landers" think Audis make a good rally car but people in Maine presumably know better and drive some other brand of front/awd vehicle, I think there is oneflat lands think sideways inline fives make rally cars...of course aftermarket is almost always simply spectacular.
. Aftermarket being simply spectacular is again sarcastic. Boxer suggests (correctly in my opinion) that aftermarket is often inferior to factory, sorry to say. So, he's saying don't automatically trust Moser.
I believe Moser's axles are generally machined at their shop from forged stock purchased elsewhere, that is approximately oem quality. We don't know about heat-treat on c-clip axles in the outer bearing area, or strength at the very end of the splining where axles normally twist...of course the ideal street axle design has a thicker diameter at the splines and then tapers to distribute twisting across the length as much as possible. If you're going to provide axles at different lengths from the same stock, of course you can't have those shapes.
However, I've purchased a couple sets of theirs that certainly were delivered in the time they say (fast) and fit well. Just never put enough miles or hard use on them to see if/where they would fail. I have another project laying around that will need street axles and will probably call Moser....Comment

There are several choices when it comes to replacement axles. 12 bolt housings... not as many choices, but searching junk yards and swap meets for one is no longer a requirement if you want one - because they are available in the aftermarket now. As well as Dana 60 to fit most applications.
As I said earlier, I haven't hard anything bad about any of these (relatively) newly available pieces, so I assume that the manufacturers are strictly monitoring quality control.
Tom's Differentials has their own line of axles (Kick Ass axles, I believe they are called), and just about anything else needed for rear-end upgrading or repair. They sell the clutch kits for Moroso Brute Strength posi's (Moroso doesn't offer), they sell 33 spline spider gears to go inside an Eaton/ Moroso posi. The gears they sell are identified as "imported" (Chinese) or not, your choice: American or not.Comment

A friend used a set of 28 spline Mosers under his 68 Mustang (low 12's all day) for about 6 years, bracket race twice a week and drove it on the street with no problem. At one point he screwed the pinion out the front of the 9in,replaced it and shoved the same axles back in. When he decided he wanted to go faster he replaced everything and went with a 35spline spool, but those 28spliners are still powering his sons car.Must be 10 years now.Last edited by Cyclone03; July 23, 2012, 07:12 AM.Comment

Moser = great local company no doubt that everything is made in the USA. We had a shorty rear end shortened more, axles and pumpkin set up by them with new axles and it was the absolute most bullet proof part of the FED. I never drove the dragster, but when the owners balls were on the line, we trusted moser.Last edited by anotheridiot; July 23, 2012, 09:49 AM.Comment

I recently upgraded the axles and changed to a spool in my 12 bolt. I had Moser 31 spline axles in it and lock rite. I wanted to go to 35 spline axle and a spool. There are 3 companies I considered- Moser, Strange, and Mark Williams. As I researched, I found that Strange did not offer anything above 33 splines for a stock case 12bolt, so they were out. Mark Williams sells a beautiful product that is about $300 more than Moser. I have read a few negative comments online about Moser, but they were from guys with 8-9 second cars trying to run too light a spline (IMO). I kept my $300 and chose Moser- I have not personally seen one fail. I trust them. Why think when you can be doing something fruitful?Comment

I have to add one thing, I ate a set of Moser Gears, the pinion started to crack and luckily it started making a clunking noise which alerted me to the problem...... Thing is the Moser gears are "race" gears and are not made for every day driving with the type of abuse I put on my car...... The guy that installed the new gears actually asked me if I autocross the car, which I don't, my reply to him was, it's just the way I drive...... He had nothing bad to say about the axles so I figure they looked ok...........Comment
