the old 496 lost some oil pressure.....had a flat tappet cam go last year and it turning into grit like lapping compound....was hoping i got it flushed out enough when i put the roller cam in but was still losing pressure...took the motor apart last night and the rear main has spun....not enough to mark the main bore completely...but enough i took it in today to get line honed....What a great guy i took it to. he offered me his 496 that he plays with on his dyno...heck its more motor then what i run...but i asked how busy he was to and if he could line hone it and clean it up....he said maybe ready tomorrow night or thursday morning....heck i get a call at 4 oclock today and its ready to go...they line honed it, fresh rub with the hone with torque plates and cleaned it up.....what an awesome dude....Thanks to Fred and Keith i will be running smooth before we have to leave!!!!!!!!

if Fred and/or Keith are anywhere on the tour, you've got to point them out - it sounds like they are the real deal ;D

Fred wants to do the tour sometime with his wagon...its a 55 i think....he has a bottle fed 540 in it with a glide and gear vendor overdrive and 9 inch with some good size drag radials under it on a ladder bar set up....he is building a little bigger motor for it with twin turbos and fast xfi....it should be awesome... im not sure if he wants a whole lot more work then what he has from what i gather talking to them so i just wanted to thank them....and engines from hal in guelph...we are going over the heads at his shop. and back to my shop the stuff should be tomorrow night...Harold at engines from hal is balancing the new crank as well tomorrow night....what a swell bunch of guys.!!! and i even have to thank je pistons and ups....ordered 1 piston because of some scoring on it....likely could have ran it but preffered a new one...ordered it yesterday from them in california and it showed up here in Arthur Ontario Canada by 1030 this morning. things are lookin good :):):):)

Do you by any chance have a gold colerd z28 that you had on the power tour last year with a 700r4 trans? If it is the car I am thinking about we were playing on the freeway on the way to evensville. I have a red 68 chevelle. Just curios.

I have the 68 chevelle with the 383 that you got a real good look at the front of. Your car is damn fast! I had the motor out of my car this year also. It wore the fuel pump lobe off the cam , and was using 12 quarts of oil on last years powertour. I decided to get a set of brodix ik200 aluminum heads and bump the compression to 11:1. The motor runs great now, but the trans heats up pretty bad over about 75. So I guess I won't be able to play on the freeway as much. Good luck with your engine even though it sounds like you have it pretty much handled. Hope to see you agin this year.

Sounds like you need a trans cooler and a lower stall converter.

I have a derale trans cooler with a fan on it, but I think you are right about the torque convertor. It isn't to high only 3000, but at 75 I am only at about 2500 rpm. If I take it a little easy it should be ok I hope. I don't want to destroy another trans this year!

well had it out to a cruise night last night and its running good....i like the lower stall i put in, the one i was running last year was stalling around 4200.....thank god it was a lockup. had a wee fire when setting the rear float level....i guess the fumes from a rag i had there lit up....seems like it came from dist cap area...just a little mark on the hood....were outta here in the morning....see u dudes down there EH!!!!
