    Opinion on this Camshaft.......

I'm going to do a head and cam swap on my '99 Camaro and wanted your opinion on this cam.......A little bit about the motor stock LS1 short block, the new heads are 243(LS6) heads cnc'd by Livernois 300+ cfm at .600 lift, FAST LSX intake, 80mm TB, Kook's stepped headers 1 3/4 to 1 7/8, 3800 stall and 3.73 gears......

I was originally looking at a Texas Speed cam but after talking with my friend Rick and doing a little research I found that that might not be the best cam for a daily driver.....basically very aggressive ramp speeds that play havoc on valve springs........ So I started looking at the different cam manufacturers and found that CompCams makes camshafts that are specific to Cathedral Port heads.......Anyway here's the one I'm looking at, what do you think??

I like it on paper on a 10:1, but I'd still want springs and pushrods to go with it and would keep an eye on the springs... that's pretty hella lift for the duration.

The cam you were looking at from Texas Speed for the 500 hp deal is pretty rough for a true daily that you don't want to spend a lot of time paying attention to. Look at one of their smaller grinds maybe. Even this one (the Comp above) is going to want attention from time to time I bet.

Pump gas cams seem to like lift. Does Comp recommend spring upgrades on that cam? A stiffer upgraded pushrod is a good idea as long as we are spending someone else's money. On that note, call them and call some other tech lines and get additional recommendations or better actual results form trusted sources.

      Then have fun.

Comp has recommended springs, I know what cam was run with these heads so if the previous owner opted for the "premium" spring package from Comp then they will have the springs that are recommended for this cam, either way it will have the recommended springs.... Pushrods are a given, since this cam will probably have a smaller base circle and I'll need longer ones.....
