How well (or poorly) do late 60's A-body seats fit in a '72 Nova?

After a round of musical chairs -er- seats, I have a pair of what I believe to be '68 Chevelle Hard back bucket seats.

They came with my youngests' '81 malibu, slobbed in with chunks of wood and a prayer or two. After rounding up and dying a nice set of G-body buckets from a junked Lemans, and welding the bucket brackets in, the Malibus' interior is pretty respectable.

But my oldest sons' '72 Nova has the factory bench. Correction, it has A factory bench. Its light blue, with badly torn cover.

Did I mention the rest of the interior matches the car? Remember that avacado green interior GM was fond of back then? That's it. Clashes rather badly with the blue seat.

Anyways, I got to wondering if those A-body buckets would possible fit in the X-body by any chance. Seems there is a lot of disagreement on just what bucket seats GM used in those cars......

    Could I be so lucky?

    Does it have a console?

No console. Why, are you looking for one? I assume for the chevelle?

They will fit. The low back seats arent that wide compared to the later high backs. If you had a console, they may be pretty close to it, but I bet they still work.

Get out your tape measurer and get to measuring. Better yet, pull that heavy ass bench out and uze it for a shop recliner and wedge those buckets in.

Original buckets in a bud's '70 SS Chevelle got replaced with Vega/Camaro units early-on, the original buckets in my '70 El Camino had me stopping at the newsstand for the Times every second day while we were moving in '91 and I was putting the miles on, to stick behind my back for support. Man, those things can hurt. Maybe look into some other styles...I wound up putting (yechh) Toyota seats in, after having them upholstered to seem like the GM pattern. I'm sure there are people who can live in a '68-72 A-body bucket seat but it ain't me.

The reason I sold my original buckets from my 65 Impala. They killed my back in 2 hours. I sold them for $300. Had four guys fighting over them. They were rusting were the stands attached to the tracks. Real safe. I replaced them with 89 Cavalier Z24 buckets. They worked and were comfy. I just pulled them for the Scat ProCars.

No, but I do think the A body seats are a bit wider than the F/X body. W/out the console, you can adjust to the center of the car and it won't be noticeable .... they'll fit.

                  Seats...which?

                  Loren got it pretty good!
We had some Camaro/Firebird seats in the derby cars and both kids were in agony.. The kid sat in 50 cars in the yard, then decided on YES a Toyota seat.. Need one more... The other seat is a Rabbit seat.. It was a major PITA. to build brackets to install in GM early Fords..
