Re: Chicago bound
If it was me, I would stay holed up in my motel room. The shootings lately have been numerous and deadly. They even have the S.W.A.T. teams patroling the streets this weekend. Over 35 last weekend and 331 for the year, so far. :

Re: Chicago bound
Blues music - Buddy Guy's Legends (good music, cool place, central location), Checkerboard Lounge (only if your feeling lucky - best music - worst part of town), any bars around Wrigley (worst music, but good people watching).
Reggae - Wild Hare and Dancing Armadillo Frog Sanctuary (near Wrigley Field)
Italian food - Scoozi's
Steak - Gene & Georgettis
Museums - The Field Museum of Natural History is pretty cool, especially if you're travelling with any kids
Car stuff - shoot me a PM and I can put you in touch with my bro, who is doing a show/track event almost every weekend.
Generally, the suburbs suck and are boring - you have to hit downtown to find the good stuff.

Re: Chicago bound
When I was there for work @ 7 years ago, we drove the coast line on the weekend in both directions and found little car shows held in strip mall and burger places. We also headed to Norwalk Ohio to their dragstrip and had a blast, and we also drove to see Indianapolis Speedway, and drove back to see the Indy 500 a few weeks later. We did a lot of driving on the weekends, with gas the way it is, I doubt we would do it the same. The food was great out there and Chicago Dogs are the best out there.Originally posted by banditracerHey Guys ,Have to go to Chicago for the next two weeks for work, any hints on where to go and what to see? Re: Chicago bound
Last time we were out there, we did the typical stuff, went up in the Sears tower, screwed around at the Navy Pear {which was ok, but to me, there were better things to see like the museum}, missed out on the Aquarium.
Got to go down by Wrigley Field and the bar strip, and ended up at some fun bar, dueling Pianos, nothing like um, drunks, pianos, and lots of songs being sung by drunks. ;)
Also, I HATE the interstate system there, trying to go back to Scheonburg {sorry if I mispelled} and um, ended up WAY lost...lol, I burned through a 3/4 of a tank of gas to get back to my buddy's apartment. I was a totaly stress puppy, freaking out, until I stopped and got a real map, and good directions writen down.
Got to see O'hare twice that night.
The wife and some of the girls in our group drug me around to different malls one day, found some decent shops.
Best part was driving up to Milwaukee for the Miller Plant Tour...and I don't even drink.Andrew
1972 Ford Gran Torino Sport and other FoCoMo problem children
2020...Bad business decisions make for interesting stories.
2021...year of singing "99 problems but an asshole ain't one"
2022-2024...my GTS ate my motha' truckin' wallet but boy does she fookin' move now.
2025... I'm just trying to live my life and have fun.Comment

Re: Chicago bound
My kids lived in Lincoln Park until fairly recently. Great ZOO! (We have grandkids). The Field Museum is, of course, great. I'm having trouble pulling up the name, but it's something like the Museum of Science and Industry has Craig Breedlove's Spirit of America. It's so beautiful it will literally make you weep. And proud to be from a country that allows a surfer dude to attack the world land speed record - and get it. Well worth doing. I've had wonderful experiences in Chicago and haven't bumped into the afore-mentioned crime. Not saying it doesn't exist, just that it didn't find me and we've been all over the town on the el. There are wonderful little restaurants all over in different neighborhoods, so it's fun to just pick one and try it - it'll likely be somewhere between OK and spectacular. I never had a "YUCCH" but I suppose they do exist.
Have fun

Re: Chicago bound
I'll be returning to Chicago as well next Sunday. How far from the city can you get. There are a ton of shows in the outlying neighborhoods.

Re: Chicago bound
For Blues I go to Blue Chicago but I'm checking out Buddy's place naxt time I'm there.
Pizza Is obviously Pizzeria UNO or Pizzeria Due.
Scoozi is a great Italian place.
If you like wine check out Cru Cafe and Wine Bar. The food is good but I like sitting by the bar and watching people.
Go see the LEGO store and the Sony store.
And don't forget to get popcorn on the mile.Cognizant DissidentComment

Re: Chicago bound
Mapquest from wherever you are staying to Union Grove and catch some drag racing at Great Lakes Dragaway. Better look at the schedule but it's a nice strip. Raced there a few times in 1995-1997 in the Beat the Heat races.
