i'm in ky across the river from evansville in. i slept right through it. everyones talking about it though. i remember the one in '02. it will get your attention thats for sure. the news is reporting no major damage. one busted garage floor, louisville ky had some bricks fall off of a building (thats about 3 hours away) they are checking the schools for gas leaks and things of that nature, no problems yet. i'm about an hour south of the epicenter, olney il.
I was making my coffee as the house began to shake. It really caught me off guard. I found myself saying was that an earthquake....Guess what dumba*& it was.
I'm in Western Iowa, on the MO river, and both me and the GF felt it this morning. Out this far, it was like a 20-second "thunder" that shook the house ever so slightly. It was out of place as there weren't "thunderstorms" here this morning, I figured it was either a large military jet in the distance, or a small quake. Having lived in CA for a while, I know what those feel like now. heh.

We get them in the Seattle area on a fairly regular basis, still gives you the heebies though!
The worst one I've experienced was in Nagoya, Japan. 5.6 about 150km away, I was in the hotel on the 36th floor! The building swayed back and forth for about 5min., spooky.
Here is a good one for you - The largest earthquake in the lower 48 since the US was settled by Europeans.
New Madrid Missouri - Northwest Arkansas -1811. 8.1 - 10 times larger than the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. Several Large ones after that in 1811 and 1812.
The Mississippi river appeared to move backwards from the wave action. New lakes were formed. One lake in Arkansas had its depth increased by 25'. etc.....
