Let me say "Thanks" too. Those old short-wheelbase dragsters are fun to watch. They sure seem tiny by today's standards. The Early coupe body with the slicks inside the body must have been "interesting". I can't imagine hazing the slicks in that thing!

This was just a bit before my time, and I, too, feel like I missed something. But I was there for the gasser wars, at least a bit. Those were great times!

Suprisingly there are lots of those old chassis kicking around. Hit a nostalgia meet at your local strip and you'll see chassis like that.
Obviously there are severe limitations on what they are allowed to run, but they are still out there.

The first rail you see in the video is knows as "The Dragmaster Dart" it was built by Dode Martin and Jim Nelson. They ran a chassis business under the name "Dragmaster". It was a very successful gas dragster back in the day. It's pretty sleek looking as the crank mount blower is tucked down in front of the motor.

They built lots of those chassis for customers and even built a twin engine version called the "two thing". Here's a link to a photo:

Dragmaster Two Thing, 1960. This car is currently (2020) in the NHRA Museum in Pomona, CA.

Note the two small block Chevy motors hooked to the two crank mounted blowers being fed through those 4 BIG injectors.

The twin engine cars were popular during the era that the NHRA banned the use of nitro, between 1957-1963. They continued on for years in one version or another, but once the "good stuff" was allowed back in, a lighter single motor car was the better setup.

Here's pic of 82 year old Dode Martin keeping his competition license current in a familiar looking chassis design. Check out that motor...LSX Power!
