they hint at it with the line

The title of the article is "cars Americans Think are the worst. The list was made with a survey of 4000 people in "perceived quality". The media says a car is unreliable, people believe it, regardless of how true it is. It's an uphill battle for American manufacturers, while the Germans float by.

Nothing like owning a MB or Porsche to get you over wanting to own a MB or Porsche. Damn Bosch electrics.

Anyhow, the US cars DO have a perception issue to overcome but as long as they keep making better and better cars they'll get there. One of the things that is missed in these surveys is what to me is the BIG issue - durability. US-made cars have shone there in the past and I'm sure will again.

I had two Fiat Stradas in the late 70's - all in all, not bad little cars. The biggest issue was the dockside-installed AC systems. There wasn't enough belt wrap to keep the alternator charging correctly. This is an easy issue to correct and I'll wager they've figured this out by now. So hopefully the new little offering (the 500, IIRC) will work and will help the Chrysler dealers as well.

I say the Fiat will probably end up making a good mark in the US with the SCCA guys and a few other niche markets.

Um, all that says is that Americans think Toyota and Lexus are top quality, which goes right along with what Consumer Reports quality surveys show as well. Newsflash, Cadillac can't even think about holding a candle to any Lexus. Ever.

Um, all that says is that Americans think Toyota and Lexus are top quality, which goes right along with what Consumer Reports quality surveys show as well. Newsflash, Cadillac can't even think about holding a candle to any Lexus. Ever.

oh consumer reports.. that book is a biggest bunch of b/s if I ever saw it..
explain how one year they can trash a product ,be it a car or anything else and the next year "carry over product" is a best buy

Maybe you're thinking of some other publication? the CR New Car survey is based on owner reports about problems with new cars. Not a lot of room for BS unless someone convinced every single person who buys a cadillac or jeep to "fake it"

Maybe you're thinking of some other publication? the CR New Car survey is based on owner reports about problems with new cars. Not a lot of room for BS unless someone convinced every single person who buys a cadillac or jeep to "fake it"

Wonder if that is why the dealer aways calls about a week after you take your car in to see if you got a satisfaction survey, then they tell you if you did to bring it in for a free oil change and "THEY" will fill it out for you. ;)

that's the manufacturer's survey. Consumer Reports comes in the mail. At least, the three new cars I ever bought, it worked that way.

All this talk still make me say, a GOOD dealer can overcome a BAD car. Same applies to any large purchase, if the dealer stands behind the product, and takes care of issues/problems for the consumer, the consumer may overlook the fact that their "blank" needed repair, or isn't perfect .

All makes of cars and trucks, tractors, bikes, quads, whatever, have problems and issues (Polaris rep's like to use the word issue, not problem. guess issue sounds better to the consumer lol) but, if the dealer does the best to help "fix" the problem, it breeds loyalty to the product, or maybe at least the dealer of the product anyways.

Dodge shot itself in the foot by "letting go" alot of good dealers in their downsize, and thats tough to overcome in the long run.

that's the manufacturer's survey. Consumer Reports comes in the mail. At least, the three new cars I ever bought, it worked that way.

Yeah, from the years I worked at the car dealerships, they were real keen on getting those manufacturers surveys, because if they did well, the manufacturer knew.

all the dealers let go , wasn't mopars doing it was a zcar. and all but one either donated or voted a way that wasn't liked by the zcars boss..
ALL but one dealer.. free country my @$$
