    Chain VS Belt

Question; We are thinking about cam belt drive for our Chevrolet small block 427. I know Jesel is well known but was curious if anyone has experience good or bad with the Comp Cams set up. Reliable with aggresive roller cam?
We always use chains, $ for $ I see no real advantage going to a belt since we probably are not going to change cam timing at the races, but hey it would look cool.

so's you don't break the cam , chains transmit crankshaft harmonics to the camshaft

    Jesel

Jesel is the orignator of the modern racing belt drive system. They developed the belt drive system because Nascar racers were breaking timing chains in 500 mile races. Over the years, the Jesel belt drive system has only gotten more durable with improved features like external cam timing adjustments.

      Re: Chain VS Belt

if it was two sohc cams, belts does some dialing in, even lets ignition be the timer...

if the cam is in the belly, I'd go even harder to gears. the forgvieness argument of the chain wins however... the cam is running more on resonant crank freq than a chain could care less about.

there is longer lasting than others, the champ is no doubt sohc, one or two belts. It is freakish longevity. a bad engine day, would be a belt only (non-interference)...

the geared single cam in the belly shoulda been the world freakin champion. Blame metallurgists/timing results. >

        Re: Chain VS Belt

Before Wayne Jesel and I became friends I bought a new Comp timing belt to replace an older Jesel unit...... I sent it back, simple because it looked and felt really cheap in comparison to the Jesel unit I was replacing.... ( to be fair it was VERY early Comp unit and I'm sure they are Way better today )

I suspect both will work wonderfully...
