What was your first "high performance" modification?

Thought about this while freezing my ass off walking the dog tonight.

What was the very first thing you did to a car as a "performance" modification?

Mine? Swapped an D.U.I high energy HEI cap and coil onto my first car, a 1984 Monte Carlo. I ordered the parts the day I got the car and swapped the cap about 5 minutes after the box showed up.

    It was still a pig.

    What was yours?
That which you manifest is before you.

        Well........my very first 'performance' mod
was swapping a 348 into my '59 Chevy Imp
        in 1967

        Took out a sick 283

        Did it on the weekend

First "performance" modification I made other than a new catalytic converter and glass pack on the Skylark, was I ran a kenne-bell 4bbl intake manifold and iirc ~390cfm carter(?) 4bbl on the 3.8L. I could never get the carb base to seal properly. Hard on idle, but it really did kick up the top end of the engine! Had to be about three years after I started driving. Rest of the time was spent just keeping it tuned and running :D
            Escaped on a technicality.

I swapped the burned out 302 2brl in my 76 Torino to a 351 4brl...but that was not for performance gains it was necessity.

the first real performance part I purchased and installed was the Weiand intake on the Fury, followed by the crab, headers and duals...

removal of silencer and hogging out the exhaust on my beater 70cc Honda ATC, when I was 10. It was still a turd, but it was a lot louder!

I was gonna say intake and 4bbl on my buddys 65 mustang, but it was probably glass packs on his dads truck.

We did a lot to motorcycles years before that, but you asked about cars.

My first mod was probably stripping all the extra stuff off my bike when I was real young.

There was probably other stuff...do you know how long ago that was?

I turned the air cleaner lid upside down on my 1977 Chevy pickup. That Quadrajet sounded sweet!

My next modification was on my 1966 VW Bug. I built a pissed off single port motor for it, complete with a Holley Bug Spray intake manifold, Carter BBD 2-BBL, a BIG TRW cam, and a set of high compression pistons. That little Bug was running 8.40's in the 1/8th mile back in the late 80's and pissing off the IROC and 5.0 crowds.

oops, I read the title and missed the details somehow.

My ATC was my "car" until I was 16 anyways. That, and a AMF Harley 90cc 2-stroke minibike. that thing was badass, when it ran, which wasn't too often.

                            Cool question.

I took the various "transfers" required to get an RTD bus ride (Los Angeles) from my high school to Western Peformance in Glendale, and bought a quick-advance kit for the otherwise stock distributor in my '67 327/275 Nova. 1976. The kit was 3 pairs of springs and two weights, nothing else. By the time I took the other transfers to get back home, it was well past dark.

For a bit under four dollars, the uninsured/therefore "undrivable" Nova suddenly got about a ten-percent increase in power, which I might have found out about on the street in front of my parent's house. It was great.
