are you going to little rock? we can pick people up along the way. if not, we might be looking for things to do on the way, let me know what you have in mind. the mini tour thing just came to me yesterday, so everything is still up in the air and open.

Cobra,
If you are coming to Tallahassee, you are staying with me. Whether I have my car done and ready to go or not I have 3 extra rooms so I can house at least a half a dozen hot rodders. There are 4 extra beds and floor space too. What a great excuse for a cookout. When I have more space than the "toolbox grill" I can get more creative than your basic Brats. Are you the only one in your gang driving this year?
What car does it look like you are going to take this year? If your going to be a Road Capt. all the way to L.R. you might think about taking a fast one. I heard there is going to be a Cruisapalosa party before the tour this year. They gave away a ton of prizes last year and that grand prize I won from E-Brock wasn't too bad either! Maybe locals, Dave and Mary know.
Stay in touch,

cool.... like i said, everything is still in the planning stage and i don't know who we will have tagging along,if anyone. harry and i'll be in my 83 stang. one freind is going up north first, and another i haven't talked to yet. hopefully others will jump on as we travel along. other activities have been mentioned, so it's looking like it would be cool to maybe leave on wed morn. i'll keep you in touch. p.s. you WILL finish the double 5. if anyone out there knows about the cruisapalosa, let us know.

Cobra, Cheaps was organising the VA trip like last year. The details have not been ironed out, but thinking is to show up late morning on Friday, meet & greet the vets, then head over to the venue to get credentials, then back to the hotel to wash the car in the parking lot and start partyin'. There are also several other Fla Freaks talking about hooking up for the cruise to LR, but as usual, not much detail ironed out yet.
PigGuy, what a great offer to brother rodders. Start thrashing and you can pull out with the group on Friday morning !!

Mikee,
Heard about your Brat party last year from Joe, with the 49 ford. Sorry I didn't make it. I cooked Brats almost everyday on PT 07, off my tailgate, on my homemade toolbox grill. I think the guys got a little tired of um. (Basic to me is onions, peppers, and mushrooms) So I wanted them to know I can grill a bunch of good stuff on a big grill such as, drunk ass chicken, and shrimp kebobs ! That should get um to stop by.
WM,
I am thrashin, but I am only one man. But I am still in the fight ! "Cut me Mick !"

Way to early for me to commit to anything :-\
I am hoping to go this year - depends on car being out of the paint shop in time to get it back together.
If I do go, then it depends on IF my daughter wants to go which would mean we couldn't leave until noonish on Thursday. I was thinking of stopping around Pensacola Thursday night. If I go solo, then I would like to leave Wednesday afternoon or very early Thursday to try and make the Veteran's visit as I owe them a lot.
I doubt that I will know for sure what my plans are until mid May.

you'll find us pretty laid back and since this is an unofficial happening, you can join in if and as you wish. at this point, we are aiming to leave out of orlando area around noon on thur, to be in tallahassee area early evening. if the pig guy is willing to bbq, then i really don't want to miss that. he is quit the gracious host and i'm betting it will be a great party. unfortunatly, it's still a strong days drive to little rock from there, so making the veterans show on friday might be impossible. maybe someone can talk to them to do a saturaday morning show, then afternoon, head to power tour venue????? maybe everyone can keep in touch at this site and we'll see what pops up. from my past experiance in life, it seems that the events that come together at the last minute, seam to be the most fun.

How cool would that be to visit Mayberry? Hey we have paved roads and everything. Maybe come April 12th for the "famous" Annual Worm Gruntin Festival !
Seriously, let me check which weekend Larry and BillyBob are visiting on the way to Kansas for the big annual truck show. He took the 55 pickup to PA last year, which are Power Tours in my book. I have plenty of room for both of you, but I wouldn't want you to fight over the Mechanics Suite. Of course if I don't get the 55 done and spend some evenings with the wife . . . I may be sleeping in the Mechanics Suite !
I think a road trip is a good idea and there is always things to do on the car. I would make it early May because late May is like June and we all know what June means, "Power Tour Baby" !

I was on the last three legs of 05, but didn't cook like I did in 06. Wish I had something fancy but I just had a little homemade box I made 5 minutes before I left. I worked for 2 years, but now is used up!
As far as 08, if I can get the car done, right now it looks like a maybe. It is a long haul from FL, oh yeah I have other excuses too. None of which are very good, but where there is a will there is a way ! "Don't throw in the towel Mick"
Hope you get some return visitors this year.

no, it wasn't anything fancy. it was better. it was unique. that "little homemade box" did it's job and fit the part. it also came with it's own set of special cooking tools. how many fun people did we meet because of that "little box" (ok, i'll give your personality some of the credit). it will always be a part of my hrpt stories. i hope you gave it a proper burial.

Up in Mikee's neck of the woods it was cold, windy, and rainy, so we used the grill as a Smokey Joe. Filled it with charcoal, hit it with lighter fluid, and WOW what a flame. Kept about 15 of us from freezin our Southern hinies off. Someone said we were the only folks with a fireplace in our canopy. Grilled every Brat, burger, a dog that day. Turned out to be one of the best days of the tour ! Guess days like that is what keeps 1200 of us coming back every year?
BTW Got a new toolbox grill for this year, Oh, Oh, Oh ! I am thinkin backstrap wraped in bacon and bacon wraped Florida shrimp ! It has become more than just a Tour, it has become a Hot Rodders Reunion !
DTB
ps the old grill . . . it crashed and burned . . . and it STILL smelled like Brats, um ummm !

DTB,
doesn't seem to be a whole bunch of interest at this time, in a mini tour, but harry and i'll be there. still not 100% sure when we can leave yet. i'm sure we'll let you know at the last minute.
i'll try for early may to see if i can get up there and give you a hand on the double 5.
mr murphy has been my best buddy this week. thanks to him, it's only taken four hours to get the new carb on. don't ask....anyway, the 83' should be running this weekend.
how's everyone elses projects coming?

Went to Charlotte's Auto Fest this weekend and caught up with some PT friends from 06 and 07. They all seem to have the same thought on the east coast, "we are getting our cars ready but not sure if we want to go or not?" Miles, gas, and various other things seems to be the thinking. Probably like me it will be a last minute decision. I picked up some of my dream parts, and with the gas I bought to get there, still saved $250. Shipping is expensive these days so I did good. Only about 9 hours of driving in each direction . . . speaking of mini tours?
So now I have most of the parts, I just need to get them installed in the next two months. It always seems to be thrash time around here. Okay Mini Tour group, I am going back in, ring the bell. "take that, you ain't so bad"

i'm in the fight still myself. the new carb fixed those problems, the new lifters didn't. i'm almost thinking that maybe i should stop screwing around and pull the motor and start over. only thing left i can think of is the cam is bad out of the box. the motor runs good, but makes alot of lifter/rocker type noise. i'll pull the valve cover one more time first and check the torque on the rockers. it's a ford 5.0, so there isn't any adjustments per say. murphy has been really f#$%ing with me these past two weeks.
keep you in touch.

Lets see . . . another test run in the 83? How about to the Forgotten Coast. I have a PT friend who has worked on Overhaulin and maybe he will lead a thrash on the 55? Let's see Cobra . . . Diff Strokes . . . Papa Don . . . Hot Rodder from work ? Including me that's five.
It takes about 50 people to build a car in a week for Overhaulin, so that means we could be done in time for . . . Let's see 8 weeks . . . "I don't think I am going to make the Power Tour this year." :(
Good thing someone hasn't said, "you can't do it!" Hey, you don't need TV cameras to do the impossible, just a group of your "best" Power Tour buddies ! Oh yeah, cold beer helps too !
Can ya talk Harry into it, and make it a solid half a dozen? The beer works out even then :) What do ya think, May 10th maybe ?

I've done the OVERHAULIN' build thing twice. I've seen what happens when the party starts too early. Promise the beer, but meter it out judiciously. We can't be lettin' the poor old '55 (or its attendants) suffer any bad judgement. Maybe you can make the big reward a party "On Tour"...and promise "dancing girls" (for me). I understand the fine art of motivation... You will be amazed at how fast things go with a few groceries, good music, good help, good supplies, good light, good tools, a good place to work, a good plan, and errand runner...and the promise of beer and dancing girls...Hey, you will have to DRIVE this thing. It can't just look pretty for the cameras while the hosts misrepresent how finished it is. This is Reality-PT not Reality-TV, baby.

Wow, you get serious real quick. I like that motivation. Okay, I will get good food, good Music, good tools, and the PROMISE of good cold beer. Any preference on air conditioning in lew of dancing girls? Cool garage might make up for cool beers. On the short term anyway! Right now the number is 5 for Earle's Chevy World and Day Care Centers Overhaulin' Project. I have a chef and a runner. All I need is A.J. . . . I mean the Power Tour crew to show up on the 10th.

the redone rear end is making noise and the new fuel pump is getting real hot on the 83'. sometimes it seems never ending. the car goes to the driveline shop for a checkup on monday. they are usually pretty fast. the new new fuel pump gets here monday or tuesday. man, summitt is good. if for some reason the 83' can't be ready, i'll put the traveling wheels on the 88' and make sopchoppy this next weekend for sure, but the whole idea was to do an extended test run before the Tour. never say die!!!!!!

That's the spirit ! Hope all goes well with your PT contender. We have a truck and trailer if you get this side of half way. We can overhaul the 55 or the 83, it don't matter to me. Guess this is what you wanted . . . work the bugs out. This is how it's done. Better close to home, than in Minn somewhere.
Your cars love to challenge you, glad to see your up to the task, "Rocky"!
See ya one way or the other Friday. Just keep thinkin about those nice rocking chairs out on the deck, over looking the bay at Angelo's seafood Restuarant. Hey, every good project has to start out with an All-Star dinner. Can't have a hungry crew; fat and happy is more productive in my book. Local Bulldozer tops Lobster, everytime !

right now it's looking good. talked to the driveline shop and they said they took it for a test drive and think the noise is normal aftermarket gear noise. they said it would go up on the lift this afternoon and pull the cover to make sure and i should be able to get it tommorrow.

similar per googlemap. we'll start just a little south of tallahassee and to get the best gas milage, run about 65mph. i figure 11-1/2hr with 1/2 hr to an hr to spare 'cuz you never know.....just don't trust the 83' yet. now if i was in the 88' gt, it would be a differant story. took it on the 05' tour and it got 24mpg on the open road at 75 to 80mph.

Last year on the way home I have pictures of the Speedo (while Bull was driving) at 120 mph, so we were cookin right along. It still took us more than 12 hours and more like 13 to get home from LR. CSTMWGN you know how to haul the mail. I say we all draft you, that way we make good time and save on gas. There is a new name for these types of folks that I heard today on the talk radio show, but I can't remember it. Something that ment GAS GEEKS ! Hey, I can live with that at $4 a gallon.
Cobra, my guess is it won't take long until open up that stang and let the horses run free. After this Mini Tour . . . and you and I take it out to Sopchoppy's 4 mile straight, "road to nowhere", you will have the confidence to run with the Power Tour Big Dogs. Especially if your Draftin :)

My PLAN (like that is going to happen) will be to pick my daughter up from school at noon on Thursday and go directly to I75. I was shooting to get to Pensacola before stopping for the night. I do drive a tad on the fast side but rarely cruise for extended periods of time above 80 - 85. I was hoping to be in Pensacola by 8:00pm (averaging ~70). Since it is about 1/2 way, I was figuring about 7 hours on Friday to make Little Rock. I may have to drive later on Thursday night and start earlier on Friday morning so I don't have to push so hard. I am still not sure how tired I am going to be from getting ready so who knows what I will end up doing.
As to route (I am a little rusty on the numbers)
I75 -> I10 -> US98 -> US49 -> I20 -> US65 -> I530 -> I630 -> Shackleford

went to sopchoppy this weekend to work on oldpigguys dble 5. we made a lot of progress, but maybe not enough. anyway, when it's done, it should look way sweet. he reconfirmed that he wants us to stop and party thur nite. he has room. the choice would be to stop and enjoy his and his wife's hospitality, and then get going by 4:30 in the morning to make the fl/al line...or go further thur nite and get a hotel off I-10 closer to the line and get up later in the morning. everyone let me know their opinion.
i usually run 44 across to wildwood, but traffic this way stinks and it usually takes me 1-1/4 hr. i get to silver springs in that time and silver springs is only 20 min from I-75. white monster, we'll probably be running in your direction sooner than I-75.

seems central florida to chatanooga via I-75 is about it.
1) then either I-75 N to cincinnati (overnite in knoxville), I-74 to indy and on to I-39 N to madison or,
2)I-24 to nashville (overnite in nashville), then:
a) I-65 N to indy to I-74 W to I-39 N to madison, or
b) I-24 W to I-57, N to I-74, W to I-39, N to madison.
we came back via option 1 last year and it took 2 solid 12 hr days. bad delays in around indy.
at quick eyeball, all routes seem close in distance.
any comments welcomed.

Cobra,
I know I let ya down last year, but I just went on a 5 hour test drive to Mississippi and I believe I have a contender. I might need to travel with a support group considering my mechanical ability but it felt tight. The 55 looks like it is ready now and I have 7 or 8 months to dial it in. Sooo, count in DTB.
BTW the Tour goes through Auburn, Ind. so I may have to stop by and visit the new pig guy. Last I heard he put 4000 miles on the Stroller (aka Pig Car) over the summer and is having a ball with it. I expected nothing less !
Have fun at the Turkey Rod Run. (count me out)

Hey All! Hope everyone is doing well.
We left Madison this year and did 12 hours through Nashville to stop in Chattanooga for the night. Took about 10 to get back to S. Fl on Sunday. The quickest route is through Nashville, up through Bloomington, IL and straight up to Madison. If we are able to cruise with ya'll next year, Nashville is a relatively easy 12 hour drive from Palm City, less from the Orlando area.
Sadly, we are thinking of shipping the car up as Lisa just started a new job and vacation time is at a premium.
Cobra,
Sorry we lost you last year on the way back. It was cool to cruise together for awhile through IL though.

Cobra,
count me in for an early departure. Just Adam is having a big party in Madison (he just doesn't know it yet!) So I want to spend some time viewing his car collection before focusing on the Tour. I am committed to the Tour now that the sponsors are coming on board, so I registered today. This will not detour from a daily Brat fest though, except this year I want to do shrimp and gator tail kebobs. Hey we're from Florida lets act like it. . . maybe JAdam can cook the Brats this year?
I am not particular what route you choose, just so it goes in a northerly direction. It will be a lot different riding in comfort rather than in a POS, so it's all good to me! Remember last year cruisin in the rain with the NAPA drain pans catching the water inside the car? Rat Rod fantasy, meets Rat Rod reality. I am really looking forward to a different PT experience this year.
Hope your project is coming along.

Dang - y'all going to have a big lead! While I might be up at 6:00am on Thursday doing laundry, packing, loading, boarding cats (who knows what else at this point), I won't get on the road until 12:30 - 1:00pm when my daughter gets out of school. If you leave a trail of bread crumbs I will do my best to follow them. At this point, I am not optimistic about getting our credentials until Saturday morning.
Have a safe trip

It is a 12 hour drive from Palm City. We want to get through Atlanta before the heavy rush hour begins. If my memory serves me correct, we took approx. 9-10 hours to get to Nashville from Madison last year going home.
