Re: Craigslist Find: A Snotty, Ratty VW Bug
A 1915 isn't bad, but it is definitely NOT a stroker. 69mm is stock stroke.
A 1915 is 94mm pistons/cylinders, which is a large as you can go on the bore for a stock type 1 engine case.
Heads are really kind of tame as well. I'm sure they flow good for stock castings, but there are far better out there.
Probably worth the money though.....

I could guess the aftermarket engine parts make it worth it.
I cannot do these things local. I would if I could. ;D
I wonder what front mounting an aircooled to a subaru would do. They got a plate for sube to vw... must be something the other way around. :

A real snotty VW would probably tear your sube in half lengthwise. ;D
Just kidding, sube engines are pretty cool in their own right.

Re: Craigslist Find: A Snotty, Ratty VW Bug
Hate to sound negative on my very first post on Bangshift, but knowing a thing or two about fast VWs, this car "may" be a good buy based on the stuff it has, but one needs to be aware that it would require substantial money and work input for serious performance. The 4.37 ring & pinion is the weakest there is and won't hold up with serious HP and sticky tires.
It might be good for a weekend bracket beater as long as one would be happy with 13-14 second ETs
On the other hand, it could be a real money pit too. I once thought i could race cheaply with a VW.
It all depends on one's goals I reckon

3 photos in the dark, and one where it appears to be broken down on the expressway. Still, it would be a riot on cruise night.Comment
