    USS JFK

Going through the email, getting things sorted out to update the site tomorrw. This one is in the collection. Quite a few of you guys here are in the military, or were, so this is no revelation to y'all, but from a civilian standpoint there's perhaps a majority of us who really have no concept....not just a concept of the job that you do every day to keep us safe, but even beyond that, the hardware that's involved.

This was presented as real to be the USS JFK docking in Malta. Good gosh, look at the buildings, the cars, the guys on the deck, how tiny everything else is.

Cool pic! Yep, that's Malta. I've been there a few times. They decommed the JFK a few years ago.

Actually, they got rid of her because of her age and she didn't have nuclear propulsion. They've gotten rid of all the conventionally powered aircraft carriers.

Lemme count....one....two....ok my FIRST ex-wife's brother was in the Air Force. I don't think I've had a much better time than hanging out with him and his buddies for a week at Hulbert Field in the Florida panhandle. They did AC-130's. The gunships. Way back then. They went and apprehended what was his name...Manuel Noriega? In Panama?

Man, what you military guys know that "we" don't know....and you can't even tell it. And that's a good thing, that you don't tell it. Thanks from all of us (at least from me) for all that you do.

A little off topic, but my Grandma just moved, and My Dad discovered quit a few old movies. He works for CBS now and is in the prosess of converting them to DVD and Blue ray. They are all of his old Navy days launching FAU corsairs, Italy, Turkey, France, The Brooklyn ship yard. He served from '61-63 (I think)...He says there is even some of the Cuban Blockade...I would have no idea how to post them here, but I'd be willing to copy them for people that are intrested if there is a intrest. I myself can't wait, theres gonna be no sound and if I know my dad he will fill it from some '50's music, which is cool by me...I can't wait.

I would love to see those Fuel! The History Channel has chaged my perspective on things because the pictures move. It feels like something actually happened. I know I've told this here before, but when I was in school we were made to memorize dates from history and that's what the test was about. Moving pictures makes it be real.

And as far as posting them here, I'm sure somebody here could make that happen in a skinny minute. Maybe not me, I don't know how, but there's lots of volunteers with the knowledge and technology I'm sure.

there might be a bonus too....his 64 409 impala....and my cousins 68 375 396 68 camaro, My cousin was into Bugs too, but I think he ditched all that when he got his camaro. I'm pretty excited to get the movies, and I'll take them to wallgreens if I have to....I can't keep this stuff to myself.

While I was down there in Florida my then-now-ex brother-in-law got good and drunk and told ME some shit he shouldn't have. But that was in the 80's. So far gone and under the bridge.

Amazing, way back then.........The AC-130's put on a show at the airfield one evening I was there. They were firing tracers. They don't have to fire tracers to hit the target, it was for the visual benefit of some military brass who were there. One out of every ten shells fired was a tracer and there was an orange bent laser-looking line going from the plane at 10K ft down to the ground. Ten thousand rounds per minute from a ...what, 50 caliber cannon?.... It sounded exactly like a race car engine at full song.

And that was all those years ago. Goodness knows what's out there now.....

I'll let everyone know when I get a copy, and like I said If I have to go to Wallgreens to copy them, I'll do it, these are too good to keep to myself.

I was on the USS Hornet filming right after the Gov't had to buy it back after selling it for $975,000 as scrap and right before it got it's Historical Landmark, or some such, status. Tiny in comparison.
