Is anybody here old enough to have had a CB radio way back then? Yes, genuinely redeneck, but I was there. KXM 9178. Dog Ears, comin' atcha. 10-77 we're down. We'll catcha on the flip-flop....Smokey's taking pictures at milepost 74.....y'all be careful, now!

Whatta blast. At least at the time....and you sure didn't want to be anybody's "Good Buddy." That phrase started out innocent, but it got to be bad.

my dad is there, he has got a strange lingo/dialect. I do not know where he got it from...or why he does it.
35 years trucking now.
I clearly remember them cbs breaking and getting trashed constantly.
I found it funny, as I spoke on aircraft, no playing at all, and no downeast maine, or southern drawl or flatlander (massachussetts ) dialects..must speak clearly. :

I have a uniden with all the split channels, 160 of them, i also have an 8' whip, we used to use them for coyote hunting, now we use marine band radios.

That was the most amazing thing, back then, being able to talk to your friends across town while you were cruising around. Totally amazing.

We couldn't possibly imagine the internet back then. No way. CB's were the cutting edge of technology.

I still have my Pierce-Simpson 23 channel, single sideband with K40 antenna. This here's the Red Baron, KFI 5083, come back.

I have one - I used to use it quite a bit in the early 90's to make long drives go by with a little more entertainment - hear where the speed traps where, and sometimes find out how to get around a traffic jam.

With satellite radio and GPS - truckers lives certainly have changed in the recent past.

Hell I had a 25' mast in the backyard with directional antenna on it. GE 40 channel with upper and lower bands and a desk mic.....man what fun that was.

We used to have road rallys around town that were managed on the CB.....

Though when I use the old trucker lingo I confuse people, they all seem to speak "Queens English" these days

There's still one in my truck mounted on the front of the console. It fits really nice there, so I kind of forget its there because I only use it on the rare mini road trips I take my heap on. I usually use Polished Turd for a handle cause well, it's kinda shiny and shit colored. I normally use it headed towards Reading, Pa on routh 222 it seems every time I run it I hear about one or two smokeys and can get it back under the speed limit when I go by.

CBs are the only way to easily communicate while 4xing.... handle "flash"

CBs are the standard at LSR events for non-official communication - at least at Maxton and Bonneville. I haven't heard of any effort to use a different system. I bought a Radio Shack hand held to take to B'ville last year - the darn thing just plain didn't work. Maybe I'll come up with something this year.

I've been wanting to buy one for my out of town excursions since it's a solid two hours in any direction with nothing, I just haven't gotten around to it. :-\

Randal - I'm betting you can get a good old one on ebay cheap - and I'm also guessing the guys on this thread can point you toward a particular model that works well.

I still remember when Cadillac offered one integrated into the radio in the dash!

I've got a pretty big radio in my pickup. I don't care to go into too much detail. :P Not that the FCC really does anything about radios putting out more power than they're supposed to, but.......

I've pretty much always run a CB. My dad runs one in his truck and we have one in the motor home. We use them to communicate around the house some and playing around in the desert, but especially when traveling. I mostly use mine to listen for the bear reports driving back and forth to work. I also play around on the side bands talking around the country when the conditions are right.
