    1993 Camry Engine removal question

Can the engine/trans assembly in a 1993 Toyota Camry be removed from the top? Kinda hoping I don't have to figure out how to drop the cradle in my garage.

There is a painter on the other side of town that would barter with me. I rebuild his Camry engine and he will do some paint work on my Ranchero. This may be my only shot at really nice work for cheap. Help me if you can. I've seen the guys work. He doesn't cut corners. Very nice stuff. He just isn't much on the mechanical side of things.

looking at my 96, I'd say yes - totally. Do you have the service manual? I think it's the same as mine, I found mine online for free in PDF format...

No service manual yet. I don't have aproblem doing it either way as long as my 8 ft. garage ceiling will be high enough for pulling out the bottom. Just would rather go from the top so the car can still roll. Never done a front driver before. Anything I should watch out for?

When you pull the engine and trans as a unit, bottom only....engine by itself comes out the top with room to spare.

most of them , I rebuilt in the car
rings used to stick to the pistons
but , they come out the top
toyota cradles just hold the suspension and torque mounts

Best tip on Japanese engines - NEVER rebuild one! Unless it ONLY needs rings and bearings it's cheaper to get one of the low mileage engines from a place like Colorado Japanese Engines (I think the name is). There's also one in San Antonio but I don't know the name. Anyhow, they get used engines from Japan with about 25 K miles. I've installed several, my bro has one from the San Anto company, and some friends have done some and we've all had EXCELLENT luck. A neighbor just priced one for his (I think) '93 Camry at Colorado and it was $850, +/-. You can't buy parts and machine work for that, never mind your labor, at least around here.

                        Worth looking into

There's a handful of companies that snag up
the 30k+ motors from the the homeland.

They are cheap too, like 800 to a grand.
