Of course I like the 2nd generation Econolines the best, which represent the pinnacle of van design.
Mr. 4 speed, they're really just a modern version of the covered wagon; what's so wrong with that?Comment

Re: Vans!
It's not all vans, it's those seventies era custom vans that make me sad. I remember when that craze started and it was horribly depressing. It was a product of new car performance falling off a cliff when all the new emissions laws came in-it was like everybody just gave up on hot rods for a while. All the features and articles in the car mags went from hot iron and going faster to how to install shag carpet and portholes in your van, and how to make it get better gas mileage. At that time it really looked like fast, fun cars were going to be a thing of the past very soon and every time I see one of those vans it reminds of those bleak days. That and the fact they're all hideously ugly.Originally posted by yogreasygrammaOf course I like the 2nd generation Econolines the best, which represent the pinnacle of van design.

Re: Vans!
some had killer art work on the flanks..
there was one in hanover area..
around the Iron maiden album seventh son of the seventh son..
that had every eddie album art work you'd ever remember see'n on it..
it was kool, just with the fact of the hours in the paint alone...
now you could do it on a computer, cut and paste and decal itComment

Re: Vans!
4Speed, I can understand where you're coming from. I'm not particularly fond of all the shag and portholes myself.
However, as Maidenhead points out, I'm in awe of some of the murals and artwork where the van is the canvas. Maiden, 7th Son came out in 1988, if I'm not mistaken, way after the "vannin'" era. But I'd love to see the van you're referring to!! Nobody can compare to Derek Riggs as an album artist; he was fantastic.Comment

Re: Vans!
70s Vans are my favorite, I don't care if they aren't performance oriented, some things are just cool, and this is cool

'Cause like a princess she was layin' there
Moonlight dancin' off her hair
She woke up and took me by the hand
We made love in my Chevy van
And that's all right with meRumors of my demise by rollover have been greatly exaggerated.Comment
