New Mustang 5.0L DOHC V-8 in April HRM

I do not profess to be a Ford guy, but I have to admit that the new Ford 5.0L Ti-VCT DOHC V-8 engine designed for the new Mustang is a beautiful piece of engineering and performance.

With 412hp at 6,500 and 390 lbs. at 4,250 on 91 octane, it will push the lightweight Mustang very nicely.

.. and weighing in at only 430 pounds, the motor keeps it light on the front suspension. The compact four valve per cylinder all aluminum heads and exposed intake are also gorgeous.

Ya gotta love it when a nice design comes together with performance ... watch out Camaro and Challenger lovers !!

A lot of the guys at work are getting one, and I'm really thinking of getting one too. I was thinking about getting an '05-'09 Mustang GT for my new daily (summer) driver, but 412 hp and a 6-speed is going to be hard to resist.

Looks pretty!! on paper, it seems great, but I'll wait a few years until all the usual TSBs, class actions, etc. are smoothed over before I'd buy one.

I'm in favor of anything that helps the former Big Three regain some status - and sales. All my best to Ford on this one. And a reminder to the "I hate technology" people - you could NOT have this kind of performance in "the good old days" with any drivability or anything resembling fuel economy. The "good old days" are today.

A new 'Stang is out of my budget but that's OK. I'm just happy to know that these exist and will be coming down the food chain to folks like me.

I'm glad your enthused Steve.

What is equally impressive to me - is that the BASE engine in most of the "pony" cars now is 300hp!

Dan nailed it - I agree that at times I long for the old days (I always say I was born in the wrong era)

however - compare the new 300hp V6 with the base 1st gen mustang straight six, and although I love inlines - 300hp and 30mpg is tough to beat as a "base" package - the infamous 302/5.0 was only rated at 225HP right?
