Where to buy a fuel filter like this?

Guys, I'm looking for a vintage style fuel filter to use on my Bug. So-Mo Speed Shop has these ones, but they only sell them as part of the fuel log and line kit. Any ideas where I could get just a filter like this, or something similar? I've looked at Mooneyes, Hot Rod Company, etc., and no luck so far. Thanks!!

    cheers

I had a filter IDENTICAL to that on my 1967 International Harverster Cub Cadet lawn tractor. Check with your local IH dealer oor implement dealer.

Hmm ... I was thinking it looked old and sort of agricultural-ish ... thanks for the tip Ron. I will have to see if there is one of those in the area.

The lawn tractor probably made as much as power as my 1500 Beetle as well. :P

      thx,

I had a 1966 bug with a 1300 in it. I feel your pain, bro!

I swapped out to 1600 slugs & jugs and did a bit of port work on the single-snort heads, bolted on a Holley Bug Spray intake and a Carter BBD 2-bbl. With a big, lumpy TRW cam, that thing ran exceptionally well. I have always had a soft spot for Bugs and enjoy seeing yours on the board,

A tractor supply house would probably have shelves full. Neat look!

Here's one that's of similar design but a bit bigger:

Re: Where to buy a fuel filter like this?

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I'll take a look around on eBay a bit, see what I can come up with.

I'm trying to give the engine bay a bit of what the VW guys refer to as the "Vintage Speed" look. I really like that brass fuel log setup from So-Mo, but I think the appearance is a bit too "early" for my 67. So with a fuel filter of that style, with some steel hard lines and brass fittings, along with maybe a Moon fuel block, I think it should look pretty cool.

I have a guy from the local VW club going through the brand new Empi copy Weber ICT carbs I have to go on ... he is relocating the fuel inlets on them, as well as a bunch of detailing to clean them up. The carbs are the same left and right, and the fuel hose would normally get looped around the carb on the left side, creating a messy look. We are going to put the inlets toward the centre of the engine on both carbs, so that the lines can be routed much tidier. The castings actually have some extra bosses on them that will be perfect for a 1/8" NPT fitting.

Once I have them ready to go I will add some photos on my thread in the project cars forum.

Re: Where to buy a fuel filter like this?

Looks similar to what the OEM's used in the late 50's early 60's. This is one from Eckler's classic Chevy parts, $35.99. I'm sure if you shopped around different restoration sites there are similar but different styles from Ford & Mopar.

Thanks Joe, that looks like it. Not knowing the Tri-Five Chevs that intimately, any idea roughly what the dimensions are on those, diameter and height? And I'm assuming that they don't have some sort of weird-ass thread size?

Re: Where to buy a fuel filter like this?

I would recommend calling them, I believe there may have been different sizes for different years and induction setups. My brothers '62 with a 327 has 3/8" line into the pump, then 5/16" line from the pump up to the carb. But I think the pump to carb line was different if it was a 348 or 409. I would think they would be standard threads the same as the fuel pumps.

Just looking around to see what I could find, and I saw that Danchuk (http://www.danchuk.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=1090) carries a similar item for $32.99. I know that my Dad has dealt with Danchuk with some items for his '56 and was extremely satisfied with them, and most of their items were U.S.A. made.

Looking around on evilBay I'm seeing a variety of Carter and AC filters that are similar style, some are down around $10 + shipping ... I'll see what I can grab. As long as they have NPT or inverted flare thread I'll be good.

                            thanks!!
