suggestion...make some reservations in whatever cities, at whatever stops, you plan on attending (maybe using the hotel tally as a guide); then in early/mid-May, get back online, look for open rooms; the HR reservations company usually releases their "blocks" of rooms about that time (rooms unclaimed and uneeded); you might find other rooms open then that show as "booked" now.....

Leon - that's a great idea - except for a woodworking outlet store (Grizzlies) what else is there in Springfield?! ;) We've got a good number staying there and many more within walking distance.

My brother just got a room at the Comfort In or Country Inn & Suites in Ames. Check there.

keep calling the hotels and checking. when i first made mine i couldn't get one of the hotels i wanted. i keep checking back with that hotel. i called last weekend and they had 3 rooms open for that day so i booked one.

Ok, I just got my last room, in Story City, IA. About 20 minutes from Ames. The guy said he had 5 rooms left, whether that's true or not, eh.

I think that Ames was the toughest place to get into, but...if someone were willing to use the HR travel agency (more expensive, not cancellable) some rooms are probably available; now, I also think that come mid-May, when the travel agency gives up their unsold rooms, that rooms at the previously blocked hotels (like Holiday Inn, Gateway, Quality Inns) are going to be available...

just called a friend about that; since they told me last nite they were staying in hamptons all thru tour.
they called ( actually 5 cars together.) and did not have rooms. they were sent a letter, late last year, from baymont which bought the hampton inn; and were told they would honor the reservations. when they called today....only 1 room. all 5 made their own reservations. 1 got a room.
big corps. don't give a sh** about , how this effects the people involved.
thats where this forum is great.....many working for a common cause and watching out for others.

Quite a few of us are staying there (again). It was clean, safe - nice parking lot. Right next door to Cozy Mels and 1/2 block to the quarter car wash.

I cancelled my high priced room at the Super 8 in Ames to stay 20 minutes north of there for less than half the price. As well as an extra room at the La Quinta in Little Rock. Not sure if they're still available or not but it's worth a shot if you're roomless in either stop.

We stayed in Super 8's in both Topeka and Lincoln. They were absolutely the best!!! the Topeka one was very new and extrememly clean. the Lincoln one was excellent also. I wud say if the place is new, it should be OK. Probably the older ones are not so great.

Of course, the Best Western Coach Inn Springfield is always the best place to stay, IMO, for a car event. Park right in front of your room. Plus, burnouts on Glenstone! What more cud ya ask for?

Just did more checking on Holiday Inn in Warren. They have a Holiday Inn and a Holiday Inn Express. Both are 65.00 gv't rate and 109.00 regular rate. The Holiday Inn Express, is about 2 1/2 miles from the GM Tech Center and has hot breakfast, and pool. Looks like lots of places to eat also within walking distance.

I just emailed to a friend that lives in the area and asked if it was an ok place.

I did not get a response from my blocks yet!..... madison and racine. i was going to use that info to go to all the venues and try a block . i reserved room at HOLIDAY INN ( GM. TEST CENTER ) IN WARREN,MI. 77/NITE GOV.. its close and reasonable rate.
there is a days inn down the road at 62/ nite. next town from warren.

I reserved 2 days cause i still believe they may change that on by a day. so i did the 4th and 5th.gates. will cancel the one i don't need.

FYI..... LEON and I have been chasing info. for final day venue. all leads point to CHATTANOOGA,TN.....but we have fet to find a venue there to handle it. they are not reserving anything until next week...but there is a nice H.I. EXPRESS at LOOKOUT MTN. WILL POST ANYTHING WE FIND OR HEAR!

Well, my explanation is pretty simple: I'm a retired Army person, hence the gov't. rate for us. I am happy to report that I am still gainfullly employed in the private sector. :)
I still think the hotels have the late cancellation policy to allow for

I HOPE YOUR MAKING ALL RESERVATIONS W/ CANCELLATION AVAIL TIL 6 P.M. DAY OF. DON'T WANT ANYONE GETTING STUCK! ALL MINE ARE. as I stated CHATTANOOGA...is a strong possibility... in fact last nite i found a good venue they could use there. UTC UNIVERSITY OF TN. CHATTANOOGA HAS A STADIUM AND PARKING AS WELL AS ANOTHER SITE W/ EXPO HALL ON CAMPUS.. just a guess.

As for another alternative....KNOXVILLE,TN. has a good venue at CHILHOWEE PARK. Its used for several natl. car events. e-mailed them requesting schedule for 6-09... will see what; if any response i get.

Had a long talk w/ LEON yesterday........... as far as we can decifer, chattanooga is a very strong candidate... they may not have done the deal yet... or it may not get done for that location.

I got my reservation at Lookout Mountain Holiday Inn for Chattanooga. Now if we can figure out the other 3 stops. As far as guesses go, I'd say that day three will probably be Kalamazoo??? No inside information, just a guess.

We just got back from the Syracuse Nat's. We talked to two of the major sponsors on the power tour and they confirmed Chattanooga as the ending for next year. Also, for 2010, they confirmed Chattanooga to Biloxi(sp?), MS. Hope this helps you guys planning for next year!

Negative on the hinge - feel free follow me in the twisties to see just how well that barge turns in :o Its got an 1 1/8" solid sway bar up front and an 1 1/8" torsion tube in the rear with chromemolly heims in all the suspension points. In 2006 the brakes smelled like an 18wheeler coming down the grapevine but very few people were pushing me to get out of their way.

I knew there was another reason I wanted to upgrade the 'bird's brakes. :o In addition to making it through the Dragon with the sunny side up, I don't want to be trading paint with that pretty 'wagon' during her prom week. ;D

Done the Tail in 07, man that was a blast. The wife had to take dramamine for the ride back. If you do the Tail now, they say it is heavly watch by the Highway Patrol, and they are giving tickets out for any infraction.
