Taking son to Drag Week

For the veterans, how old do you reckon would you want your son to be to take him on Drag Week?

As I'm from Australia, DW would be a one off deal due to shipping/customs so trying to figure out the perfect age...

I am not a veteran but I have a couple of thoughts.

Does he go to the local drags with you now?
If so does he enjoy the people, cars, event atmosphere?
Does he enjoy going on 200+ mile cruises in your car?

Goat Racer took his son on DW 2005 or 2006 and he was in a car seat!

I would say it will all depend on how reliable What I was taking was. Everyone is pretty easy going not a bad croud, but if he is young and your on the side of the road for 4 hours working on it, the both of you will not be very happy.

My son is 14 and I would still not take him wih my car, LOL its Prone to have issues at the level its at, or the people I go with and wont leave ( we pulled and rebuilt Doc mtr in 07, then drove all nightand next day till 2:00) Even if the issue is Landing from a Giant Wheel stand making the car un drivable 450 miles from the trailer in 08.

My son was going to go in 07 "IF" his grades were up where they needed to be.They were not but he told one of his buddies that hed be going anyway. ;D Guess who didnt get to go? I did call him and give him daily updates though ;D ;D You know your son best.

It's a very tiring event, that's the biggest thing to keep in mind, if he doesn't like road trips, or hot days (it's a roll of the dice), etc. Hold out for a few years.

I'd say 13/14 at a minimum is the safe bet, but some kids LOVE being around cars and living them, so you could go a lot younger, it's your call.

The nice thing is, Drag Week consists of some of the nicest people on earth

One huge determining factor to keep in mind is the life of the event. I hope the event lasts for at least another 5 years, but there's always that chance of it getting cut, it is Hot Rod (and sponsors) footing a good chunk of the bill!

I took 2 sons this year. One 8 and the other 14. They fought, got on my nerves, and whined alot. But you know what, they will never forget it. The 8 year old acted like he hated it, but I catch him talking about it alot. Individually it would have been too much for him to go alone, he needed his brother to keep an eye on him. The 14 year old would have perfect by him self. He is a future car guy and loved every minute of it. I think the most fun we had was riding in the car from track to track. If you get along with your kid and he loves being a part of what you do, take him, 2am engine replacements will add to the awesomeness!

Yeah the lifespan of the event is the concern. He's only 3 1/2 atm and the car is about a year off. He loves going to the drags and loves being in the car so....

How old was goat racers son?

The car is only a two seater too so things will be tight inside.

I don't think this will die a quick death, DF says its his favorite event and the sponsors that have been in it seem to be using the cars from it. last year seems to have brought new blood and it seems to be growing again if the economy doe not kill off the players and sponsors first
