I have one I got at Home Depot, but with the few times I've used it, I want a straight one as well. Before I start cutting up metal for rust repair, I'm going to buy a straight one too.

Re: Right Angle Air Die Grinders

I'm morally conflicted about air tools. I'd like to buy American, but a good friend of mine had an excellent point: for a fraction of the price, you can buy one from Harbor Freight and use it like a dog for several years. When/if it breaks, go get another one for $19.99 plus a 20-percent off coupon. Or do like he does and buy them two at a time so if one dies, you've got the back-up ready to go.

Even good air grinders have a finite life... if the cheap one is less than half the price of a good one, and the good one only lasts a little longer than the cheap one, you're money ahead.

My good Craftsman die grinder died, and sears wanted like $119 to repair it, but it was only a $45 tool to begin with. The HF one was $19, and it's done fine.

I've got their 90-degree grinder too, and use that one for everything. It's a decent tool, does the job well, and was cheap.

The problem is it was made overseas, and now that kind of crap is really starting to bother me.

          buy american if you can..
the money you'd save on an other built one.. is short sighted at best..
remember when people here are working they are paying taxes and helping ..
when they are unemployed.. they are taking taxmoneys.. and costing you more than you saved in buy'n that cheap offshore tool..
          think long term..
          sad people cant see this..

I bought and American angle grinder over 15 yrs ago, it isn't helping the guys who make them now...because it still works great...

Bought the 2-pack mini grinders (straight and 90*) from my "Mac" tool dealer couple years ago for like $75 super sale. Work great. Had a straight one for years and usually did the job unless access was limited. After using a 90*, it is now the go to design unless access prevents its use. In other words, if I could only have one, I would choose the 90. Although price enters the equation on purchase, something spinning 20,000 plus RPM's makes me not want to buy the cheapest thing out there, especially the bits.

I have some cheapies, but I have to say - there IS a difference - especially in cutting power.

I can go through stuff MUCH faster with my IR tool than I can the HF specials... the IR doesn't loose rpm when you lean on it like the HFs do.

CP straight diegrinder and a Husky (home depot) right angle. The CP is 20+ years old and the Husky about 10. Both have worked flawlessly, I make sure and oil them regularly.

An IR will last longer, and work better.
It may be a little more, but IMO it's worth it.

Especially nowadays - craigslist, pawn shops, garage sales, and ebay are good places to find good used tools of all kinds.

                        I have this one...

Very happy with it, couldn't live without it.
I took my own tools to the body shop when working on my javelin so this thing got one hell of a workout and it's still going strong.
If I were to ever buy another one I would buy an even better one as this is the most used air tool I have.

The right angle die grinders are great for using the 3M roloc and roloc bristles. Saves time cleaning gasket surfaces of timing covers, oil pans, etc. If you are careful, you can even use them on heads and decks to get that stubborn head gasket residue off.

I have both in IR and am very happy with them. The 90 mostly has the Scotch Roloc disc system (see above) on it and I use it a LOT.
