97 chev truck 5.7 popet valves

Ok my 97 chev is having fuel issues. It seems to be in the fuel delivery system. This model has some stupid central metering with hoses to popet valves. I am thinking the first thing to try is to clean these valves. Anyone else do this? Are there any other options?
    Thanks

I've cleaned them and gotten away with it. It made the random misfire code go away, but it was those codes that pointed me to the specific poppets that were the problem. If cleaning them doesn't work there is a retrofit kit to convert the poppets to injectors and fix it for good.

everyone that comes in with bad popets we do the change over to regular injectors still central located but not a popet
\what is the problem they have all sorts of issues but I would not condum the injector on a hunch

it used to start right up, now it takes 10-15 or 30 sec to catch. If its been sitting overnight and its cold, it may not start. Codes are hit and miss. By the time I can read a code its gone. Pressure is good. I will pull plugs tonight.. Gas down the intake will get it to start.

we have had a bunch with the vortec 5.7 with wireing issues and computer issues that needed to be reflashed
            good luck keep us posted

When was the fuel filter last replaced?

Could be another quality fuel pump

Friend's ate ignition modules too. It also nearly chewed the gear off of the distributor. For all the Vortec head's power, the rest of the engine was a bit of a turd to work on it seems.

I had one that kept giving me missfire codes, Turned out had a vacuum leak at the intake gaskets, If you haven't changed em, be best to do so before it starts leaking water in the lifter valley.
