I've had one for years, and it's amazing what kind of stuff you can get done with it. Get a saw blade for plastic, the large diameter cut-off wheels, and the little cartridge rolls. A couple of metal burrs aren't a bad thing either.

My dad's is slicker than hell... His is a Craftsman, and he has an old electric sewing machine foot pedal that he plugs it into, then plugs the pedal into the wall. Step on the pedal, dremel comes on to whatever speed setting he turned the dial. Foot off/power off. Just like a Dentist.

It's a great safety feature, actually, because as soon as you run the metal saw blade across your finger (me), or the wood burr runs across the bottom of the pinewood derby car, catches your shirt and runs up your chest, twisting the front of your shirt up like Mary Ann from Giligan's Island (Boy Wonder), you can quickly shut it off by simply moving your foot rather than standing there wondering "What the hell just happened, and how the hell do I turn that thing off with one hand/while it's tied up in my shirt?"

I laughed pretty hard at that considering I did just that (the Mary Ann shirt thing) this weekend with my Craftsman badged dremel.
