Don't forget that the LA County Museum of Art is right across the street if you need to appease the spousal units in a trade off. Then next door to the LACMA is the La Brea Tar Pits where there is an actual puddle of tar and an archeological dig right there on LA's main east/west street.

Are the Tar pits the result of all the LA Dads beating the tar out of their wayward boys as mine often threatned to do? Clever of the Angelinos to make a central place to gather up all the tar.

The tar pits are just a visual que to how much oil is/was under the city basin. They are still pumping oil out from under the entire basin.

Here's an old pic, but that view hasn't changed at all. That's La Cienega Blvd down there.
