    Steel vs nylon shifter bushings.


    Dunder, my "assistant" Dumb as a post but friendly as anything.

    I was installing my shifter last week when I noticed there were only 5 clips instead of 6. I went on Summit's site to order some more clips. The clips were sold in bushing kits, so I ordered the steel bushing kit. I was wondering pros or cons to using steel bushings. I can live with a little more vibration for improved feel. Any issues as far as increased wear on the shifter rods or arms or anything else I should know?

      It's nice to see Dunder doesn't discriminate to who or what he shows affection. A shifter gets the same rub as your leg. Nice.

          Bronze. Get the bronze bushings.

                      I've been running a comp plus shifter on a nash 5 speed for 20 yrs. When everything is new steel is great. But they have a tendancy to break on hard shifts. Then they fall out. Bronze doesn't break, but I haven't found a source for them....??????????? The nylon get looser more quickly but never break and stay quiet. All of them need to be lubed. I like white grease. If you drive the car then they will need replacement regulary. along wit dem spring clip thingys. also keep the shifter body greased up. I go through mine about every 6 mo.'s. Dissasemble everthing. clean an grease an re-assemble. Nothing will spoil your ride more than a screwy shifter.
