How in the heck does that thing do that? I kept thinking about a flexible drive shaft and axles of some such stuff. My vote is that is is indeed one of the coolest off road rigs ever. I would sure like to have more info. on the thing.

I was thinking a driveshaft going to each one, with a 90-degree gearbox doing the 2:1 reduction mentioned in the info box, but a chain drive seems a bit more plausible for a one-off homemade machine. That, and a lot easier to fix...

I vote for hydraulic motors at each wheel. Seems like the most likely explanation. I'm guessing, of course. Pretty cool, anyway.

check out the "info" on the youtube video, it explains pretty clearly. It's got a 9" axle mounted under the driver, with heavy chains runnig down the suspension arms to Hummer (HMMV - not the H2/H3 junk) hubs which have 2:1 gear reduction, the rears are fixed and the fronts are steerable (just like a real hummer). Hydraulic rams operate the "swingarms" or whatever he calls them.

At 5900 pounds, it's not a lightweight, but not as heavy as I'd expect!

          Pretty creative IMO!

Yeah, after watching that I thought it would be a lot heavier than 5900lbs. That thing looks like a tank.
It looks cool but it also looks like a lot could go wrong to leave that thing stranded on the trail.

And what kind of rescue vehicle do you have to get to send in there to haul it out or bring parts/welder? :o

Definately cool though for the rock crawling people.
                Escaped on a technicality.

love the concept and the rig.
I wonder why he went to the trouble of chain drive vs. hydraulic drive.... with hydra he could have 4 wheel steering and the ability to do digs....

Looks cool in all but how well would it work in a mud hole or what's known as a tank trap? I think not to good.
