I saw this on the news this morning. A Judge signed off on it, I'm guessing the evidence is pretty damming.Escaped on a technicality.Comment

If he's found Innocent like O.J that $20 grand a month is going to seem cheep! And why did they feel they needed to store them?! Just had to seal his garage with a pad lock and some sort of writ .Comment

My guess is that he doesn't own the garage and the lease/rent is ~$20,000/moOriginally posted by HoosierGTAIf he's found Innocent like O.J that $20 grand a month is going to seem cheep! Guilty until proven innocent is true in criminal cases, however, you missed a key line - he fled to Panama. Once you run, that changes the entire scope and nature of the proceedings because they can (and probably will) try him in absentia..... and even if they don't, there are two proceedings (court cases) - a criminal one regarding the indictment, and a civil one regarding the losses - in the civil one, if a defendant runs the plaintiff is entitled to a default judgment and can levy against assets of the defendant. The defendant can redeem his stuff, but would have the burden of proving failure of service or some other major flaw in the plaintiff's case..... when you run, you really put yourself behind the eight ball because you knew of the proceedings, yet chose not to defend. To clarify a bit more, the defendant does not have to be at the civil hearing; he simply must have his representative there..... if he doesn't, then too bad for him.
Simple, no? ;)Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

I want that 64 Riviera! The colour is Bamboo Cream and one of my favorite offbeat Buick colours. I wonder if it has a saddle or grey interior.Central TEXAS Sleeper

Leave it to the court system to basically say F you. Things are going to be my way and that's it.
Until he is Proved guilty in a court of law and a judgement has been made, he is still Innocent. There for the government has essentially taken the property of an innocent man regardless of what the crime may be.Comment
