TH350 question

My friends th350 in his Monte Carlo has an issue with running the speedo. While I was under last week, I took out the spedo gear and housing to find the corresponding plastic gear that's on the output shaft of the tranny just spins and slides back and forth. Obviously, the guy who rebuilt the trans dropped the ball putting that part together. Luckily, the rebuilt trans works fine otherwise.

What's involved in getting that gear attached correctly so we can get the speedo to function?

probably need to pull the driveshaft, tailhousing, and play with finding the clip for it. It might be there, or it might be missing, the gear might be broken, who knows.

I found a little clip behind the speedo gear in the tailshaft housing. I'll try to get a pic of it tomorrow.
