The goal of the look of it is a traditional highboy hot rod... nothing fancy, not a bunch of chrome/billet... I ain't into that bright shiny stuff... even the paint is going to be flat....
The goal of having it ready... well, it is pretty high... it should be ready for HRPT '08... it will probably be ready to be driven the first time sometime in April... I hope...

Whats high? The goal, The stance on your hot rod, or you for thinking you can get it done by April?
Im jus playin, ive seen more extensive cars come together in less time. Its just a matter of how bad you want it. Mind over matter right?

Are you going to leave it hoodless? I love seeing the motor hanging out there in all of its glory.

Yes, no hood... I am going to have the top part of the hood handy in case I know that I am going to get caught in some rain... don't need the carb sucking water... but it will definately not get the hood sides... they won't fit with the lake style headers anyways...

Are you going to stick with skinny tires (piecutters)? Very nice project. Please keep us posted with plenty of pics.

The front tires are going to be 215/70 on 15x7 and the rears are 285/70 on 15x10... the most extreme stagger that I could live with... i should have some more pic next week as the frame should be going to paint next week...

Added some more pics of what has been done the past couple of weeks... Here s a rundown...
Cut the floor pan out below the seat so that the bod would drop down over the 'Z'... roughly mocked up the gas tank. I am using a 32 tank with 32 rear frame horns....
also have the new firewall clamped in... cut the hole for the steering column in the firewall... front suspension mocked up... still have to mount the front shocks and steering...
Today I pulled the window regulators out and cleaned them up and shot a little paint on them... did the same for the rear/rear quarter window garnish moldings....

I don't have any pics yet, but the frame is finished... The guy that is helping me with teaches auto collision at the local high school and we took it over there for him to use as a teaching aid... the kids get to do a little grinding/dressing of the welds, learn how to cut/fit gussets, and they are going to shoot the primer... I will follow them and shoot the paint on it... I will post some pics once I have some...

Stillkruzn, you mentioned that you wanted to run a 285/70 tire in the rear. Who makes those and where do you get them? I am thinking the same tire for my truck in the rear.

I am running the BFG Silvertown Radial with wide whitewalls from Coker... Pretty pricey, but well worth it... BTW.. the BFG Silvertown is actually a T/A Radial carcass...

Paintless is the way to be.
I could never spend a ton of money on a paint job because I would stress out about scratching it up. I am a big fan of flat black. I do like a nice retro paint job. Scallops or flames. Please don't two tone it!

I am seriously thinking about using the original Ford Maroon that the car was painted and then putting flat clear over it... NO 2-tone....

fahrenschnell -- I love your avatar - I wish they still made girls like that.
This model A project really has my imagination going - I've been scetching cars since I was a kid and I always loved this body.
I want to build one with a stretched hood and front frame and run a big 300 I6 in it with an aussie crossflow head, with overdrive so I could drive it anywhere and not go gaspoor.
this project looks way cool - I hope you make it to your goal! You can always shoot some cheap primer on it for the HRPT.

This one is stretched 4" on the front to fit the SBF/AOD... I figure this motor combined with the weight of the car should get 22+ MPG...

I know the injected 5.0 cobra kits get high 20's for MPG on the highway as long as the gear ratio isn't too wild.
keep in mind gear ratio tire size and aero have a ton to do with fuel economy....
I have no idea what the Cd or frontal area of your car would be, and with open fenders and big back tires, and can venture a guess it won't be great.
With the AOD and a mildly built 302 EFI or dual plane intake / vac sec carb - with reasonable gearing to put you around 2500 at highway speed - you should do great on gas.
FLAT BLACK ROCKS! (just make sure you use sealer, not primer, so it won't rust under the finish coat)

This will be a great Hot Rod drive train, I've driven a couple Mark VII's and they we're pretty Quick, in a heavy car. I've owned 2 Town cars with the 302's and both got 23 mpg.

Very cool
I didn't realize just how far back on the frame the axle would be mounted.
Love the wheel/tire look.
What kind of paint did you use on the frame?
did you spray HVLP?

The rear axle pretty much sit in the same place as the original... the tires are going to line up in the wheel wells.... I used Valsapr Tractor and Implement paint, low gloss black.... you can buy it at Tractor Supply(TSC) here... It is sprayed with an HVLP gun...

Looks Great!
Tractor paint rocks - I painted my pallet racks with that using a brush and it has held up to years of abuse.
one of these days I'm going to suck it up and try spraying, might as well learn HVLP - it's obviously the wave of the future - and with the price of paint - if it wastes less --- I'm all for it!

How do you plan on prepping the sheet metal. Will a soda blaster take the rust down and clean it up?
