Well the May meet is now in the record books.
We had one 3/4 mile oil-down and two stops for rain, but overall a great racing weekend even though it was called at 12:15pm Sunday due to a front moving in.

Only 5 weeks to get your junk ready for June, so get busy !!!
;D

Oh, by the way...

Jimmy Shine came out to Maxton this weekend to race in Jesel's coupe (he managed 201 MPH and some change and was inducted into the ECTA 200 MPH club and earned his Green Hat).

http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd166/55chevr/P5160414.jpg

I got the oportunity to chat with him and he told me about his new show on the Discovery Channel, called Weaponizer.
They get to screw around with big guns and ordinance and blow sh!t up in the Navada desert and he said it was a blast (ha, ha pun intended).

Jimmy said they incorporate some heavy stuff into crazy cars and vehicles and go to town on some junk.
Anyhow, it sounds like a hoot and worth checking out.
I'm gonna !!

Weaponizer cast with guns: Jimmy Shine, Andrew McLaren, Rusty Oliver, and Cowboy.

23 more days to go - get ready to pop and air dry that laundry !!!

http://i453.photobucket.com/albums/qq256/dwphotosonline/ECTA4905.jpg

Apparently, the Firecracker's new motor is on the K-member and with a little help from Dave (std) and Kurt Urban the boys managed to massage it to fit with the bellhousing and the motor and trans should be in the car and wired up.
Luke, Seth and I hope to earn our "B Licence" this meet.

Working? No I am not remodeling any houses while I am there ;D I will definitely be volunteering. Bringing my own leaf blower no more broom jockey for me :D Hoping to hang with Kim for at least Sat morning. Racing? The track officials would have a serious problem with all the fluids my junk leaks. My undies would have a serious problem with the drum break pull I can't seem to get rid of. Not that I am terribly worried the thing is a giant sail. See you there.

Who else from the forum is going?

We can count on Steve (White Monster), Luke and Greta (betterwithboost), of course, Keith and Tonya, Todd (NARIDER - he hangs out here sometimes), Ken (relaxedfit), Joe (JRoberts), and I'm sure I'm missing a bunch. Are Seth (Fahrenschell) and Bill (min301) coming? Anyone want to work pre-stage? We'd love to have all who can make it.

Great! Who wants pre-stage, and who wants to work with Kim at the gate? Not sure who we have at shut down, so a couple of bods there will be good, too. Luke - can you train 'em if Ken or Joe isn't available? Remember to bring chairs - makes life better. We'll provide Easy-Ups for the gate and there may be an extra for pre-stage.

I assume Staging is covered. Steve, you'll probably have Marsi, as she's planning on being there. BTW - Steve is acting Chief Starter while Al heals.

Dan, I will be there, but am not sure how much work I will be able to do. I started my daily radiation treatments this week. I'll have to wait and see. I would also like to get some pictures this time as I will not be there in September and have gotten very few good pictures thus far this year.

I figure I should be able to fill in down at Shutdown some. I can spell Ken when he runs his bike.

The Hut is probably the best pizza in town. This should give you some idea of the state of culinary expertise in Laurinberg! The track food is decent and reasonably priced (for track food), though.

Yep, he uses Nathan Giant Hot Dogs and has chili, so with some mustard and onions, that is the closest you can get to a Coney Dog outside of New York.

Okay Steve we're going to have to educate you on the Culinary Arts of the Southeastern North Carolina. ;) A real hot dog does not need mustard or ketchup. All it needs is good chili, slaw and onions. Needs to have lots of that good stuff on top, even to the point to need at least three large paper towels! Now with Bill's hot dogs you can put together a pretty good hot dog. I do it five times a year at Maxton. ;D

The only thing I miss from Milan Dragway is the sloppy joes. I don't think they're Manwich and they're darn yummy. But other than that, Bill does a good job - for track food.

Another setback (we are getting used to these).
Just spoke to Seth and the 205 gear would not fit into the Moser 9" without a little persuasion, which took additional time, so the "handoff" will probably be delayed until tomorrow, which was our slot at the tuners ....

Hey Steve

The fire cracker got you down? I would have thought some starting line weather reports would have popped up here by now. ;D

Friday iso tstorms 30% high of 93
Saturday iso tstorms 30% high of 99
Sunday partly cloudy high of 99

I keep running the opening of Blazing Saddles through my head. "It couldn't be more than a hundred and thirteen"

edit It looks like the black cloud that was residing over the Fire Cracker has lifted!

Hey all

The end of the day on Sunday I started thinking 'Joe shut down already these guys are just running laps'. But then I got to thinking the last couple of people running were hanging out in my dream land as a kid. The amusement park is empty and you get to ride the rollycoaster as fast as your feet will carry you from exit to entrance. I smiled the whole way home thinking about the big dodge running 101, 106, 107, 106, 106, 104, 1??.

See you all in October

Steve

DanStokes

Steve, as always it was a joy to have you. Thanks for your help.

I also like your analogy. We had a just a few racers at the end running laps - some bike guys and a couple of late comers in cars/trucks. One was a V10 Dodge PU 4WD that sat WAY up in the air. He was the guy Steve was talking about running 106, 107 and so on. He helped pick up cones and was still smiling.

I'd like to thank Steve (Rightpedal) for his assistance in shutdown. Ken Presson and I appreciated the extra help. It was nice to be able to leave a bit early on Sunday. I think I over extended myself a bit on Saturday was pretty tired.

It was an interesting weekend. Fewer competitors than usual, but many unusual and cool machines running down the track. I am sure the drivers/riders appreciated the ability to make about as many runs as they wanted to. It has been a long time since that has happened.

Unless something disastrous happened within the last hour and a half on Sunday, we were blessed with no rain and no need for doing the Kitty Litter Shuffle all weekend. That was a very good thing.

I enjoyed the weekend. Won't be there in September, so will see everybody in October.

I had a good time even though the Firecracker didn't make it. Met a bunch of people that I'll forget their names, but I'll see them again.I really enjoyed looking at all the bikes going through. I'm going to have to get going on my own project.

Sorry I didn't stick around to help pick up after but I had a 12 hour drive home. Standing in the sun all day and then driving isn't the best combination, but I'm a professional. I've been training for years. I don't know what I did before Red Bull
