The bogus Time worst car list got me thinking...which awful car would YOU most like to own?

Freiburger

And, for the record, I currently have a Gremlin and have owned two or three Pintos. I like the Gremmie, and Pintos are actually really good.

Saw a mint Chevette on the street yesterday. There are hardly any left, even out here.

Mark me down for a (gulp) Gremlin....seeing Brian Ambrosini's tire-yankin' orange beast makes me look at them in a whole new light.

I'd still pay admission for someone to do a turbo install on one of the diesel Chevettes...LMAO

I think I've made it obvious around here that I'm into Pintos. It might be because my first car was a Pinto. My son even likes them. Too bad I couldn't pick three. I'd throw the Chevette and Gremlin "worst cars I'd own" list too.

Then just pick up a copy of Diesel Power magazine! Jason Sands there has one. I think I've seen him on here, too.

I like the Airflow for it's design, the Edsel for pure nostalgia....I owned a Pinto
back in the early 70's with a hand crank sun roof.

I've seen a couple of Pacers done up righteous looking pretty cool but
went with the Gremlin.
Something like what Randall AMC of Mesa, AZ did back in the '70's offering
up a 401 package.........a mid 13 second car for $2995

Gremlin here! Drop in a 4.0 HO with a budget turbo, OD trans, and have a blast. Oh yea, mopar rallys and green paint!

That's what I see every time I see one

Anyway, I'd love an Airflow, I don't know how much fun to drive they'd be, but it's one of the cars I'd buy in a heartbeat if I ever found one for sale, along with the Consulier GTP which is also on the list. Doubt I'll ever see one in person though.

Still think Pintos are cool. A freind just built a 4cyl one a couple years ago, everybody loved it. Getting hard to find parts for.

Chevette with a Cummins 4B/200-4R would probably get 40 mpg or better and run 12's making 250 reliable hp.

Didn't chevy make a diesel chevette? I know isuzu made a diesel version of whatever they called the same car....

I already owed a chevette back in the day....count me out

That's what everyone who ever owned one tells me... something about them being such a POS creates the appeal. No I can't explain that.

I would have an edsel. I just dont see the problem with them. all i can find is that they were just too different looking and the gear selection buttons in the steering hub were a bit unwieldy for racing. ::)

a 429/460 and floor shift would badass one up pretty well IMO

I've had a liking of Gremmies since I met a guy who usually goes on CC's Anti-Tour with one. His now sports a 401/ 5 spd, but looks totally beat and stock.

I'd actually pick the Edsel. Give me a 59 or 60 wagon and i'd be happy! Black, lowered, with Astro Supremes and skinny whites. That would be cool!

I read the Time article and thought "Romulan car owner..."

I voted Pinto because when I started dating my wife, she was driving a borrowed "two-tone" model with a silver bumper sticker that said "I'm into it". That damn green monster had it in for me, the car had an apparent mean streak. It tried to get me killed on the downtown overhead in Fort Worth. I started dating my wife because she brought it to the parts store where I worked and the thing was leaking fuel all over the place. It's a wonder it didn't catch fire right there in the parking lot. I fixed that for her, then it ate all it's belts and then barfed the battery. After I sold her a battery, I asked her out. The owner came and got it after we were married and it died on him between Texas and NM. I like to think it's like a Pandora's Box - buried somewhere in the desert, and if found - screaming death (from buying replacement parts) awaits!

But I lusted mightily after a purple 304 Gremlin X with a Levi interior at the 1974 auto show at the Texas State Fair. They don't want me either - when we moved here, there was an orange Gremlin that was parked at a house right behind us. It promptly disappeared.

I picked the Pinto, with conditions.

It has to be a 1971 or 1972 model with a 4-speed and a 1600cc engine. I don't like the looks of the slant nosed Pintos and the 2.3 is overrated in my opinion. These were good little commuter cars and very dependable before they stuck crap like AC and AT and PS and PDL and PW and RWDF on 'em. Gimme plain Jane any day.

Pinto w/ a TC 2.3L!!

Then again, I have a friend with a 514 powered all steel/interior Edsel that runs 11 flat in the quarter with slapper bars.

Freaking cool car.

I have to agree here... I'd love to bolt together a killer Pinto before I leave this planet.... or a mind-blowing 1-G Edsel....

...and no love for the lowly AMC Hornet ...even if it looked kinda like this??

turbo pintos can go 8s all day long. I've never seen an 8-sec CadVette (but the idea is cool)

Personally, I think the Gremlin with the 4.0 Jeep motor, with a 76mm turbo is a LARGELY unexplored combo. Someone needs to do it!!
