So after a long walk through the Pomona Swap Meet, DF, Turk and I come across a '72 D100 short wheelbase panel van we just had to have. So after the exchange of $800, he was asking $1400 (DF is a beast!), Turk drives it to his hotel and makes it his temporary home for several days leading up to Bonneville. The van is mint, with a slant6ish, three on the tree, fresh wood paneling, all wrapped in the brilliant splendor Dodge called Tiger Lilly Metallic. It's half DF's, so his half is getting big and little Cragars, Indy Profiles, and killer CarJunkieTV.com van art. Who wants to road trip with us in this bad boy? Where should we go? I'm sure we can find a van-in somewhere. I'll grow a handlebar mustache and a ponytail and we'll be rocking down the road. ROAD TRIP!!!!

Re: The van...
Oh man... I love the Van... Being the Proud owner of the other 50%... it totally rocks... I mean it's truly "Disco Bitchen"...
Chad in his infinite wisdom has the story skewed a bit in Freiburgers favor.... so I'm here to set the record straight...
A bit of set up here...
I'm out in La La Land putting the engine Freiburger has just built in the Bonneville car... 1200hp worth of 14-71 blown big block... And we needed a break... the Pomona Swap meet was going on... since Tonya was in town and never been there we decided to pass on El Mirage ... and check out the swap meet ( our junk wasn't ready any damn way, and we all have tons of practice being miserable )
So we're on cell phones trying to find each other and we start hearing he's by this really cool wagon ... over here by Light pole number 12 or some such crap...
David's got a thing for worthless cars.... I know.. It's part of who he is... and I'm okay with it for the most part... but he had found... the ultimate JUNK Station wagon and was totally drooling by the time Tonya and I showed up... My first car was a 56 two door wagon like Chads... so the wagon part is fine... but the rest of this Family Truckster that he was sporting a major Chubby over... well it simply wasn't even close to Cool... Chad being the Joyful friend that he is... was sporting the same size Chubby in loyal support. SO ... Tonya and I show up and instantly deflate these two yahoo's ego's... and they start wrongly defending the Merit's of this POS wagon...
David's going on about how this thing was Green and Karen "Loves Green" ... Tonya... in her most polite and congenial manner asks.... "ahhh Okay... When was it Green? "
Bottom line... the guy who owns this Wagon isn't negotiating... it's still fairly early in the day... Off we go... As we walk the rows of cars and fall in love with 10 to 20 different projects ,... we keep coming back to this dang wagon... and I'm just totally over the wagon...
By now it's later in the day and the Supposed guy who was Dying to buy the wagon earlier had backed out... so the seller is now a bit more anxious and I'm about to slink down behind the next row of cars so people don't know I'd associate with someone who was "really" interested in the Wagon... So what did I slink into? Hmmm Yep you guessed it.... the VAN ... there it was the WHOLE time... just sitting two spots over from the Wagon De Jour.... ( yeah I'd have given it a total of 24 hrs to completely fall apart )....
Ahhh,... on to the negotiations part... I'd already offered the guy 1000 bucks... and couldn't really back down from that ... ( the guy really did have a 2000 dollar price tag on it ) But once I started scoping out the Van... Freiburger and Chad Dropped the wagon like the Piece that it was.... Flushed it cold for the New thought of a VAN.... how cool would a VAN be.... so Freiburger Gets in... checks out the Radio and Cigarette lighter delete plates and is TOTALLY in.... Since I found it... we're instant partners... we've done this Bville thing together for several years so I'm fine with sharing...
Me... I've got Tonya there and I'm thinking... Hmmm NEVERMIND it's a Van... you already know the Bumper stickers it has to get.... So on and so forth... David offers the guy 800 bucks and the next thing you know I'm Drunk as hell... sleeping in the Back at LACR... just a few weeks later....
SO that's my story and I'm sticking to it, For the most part.

Re: The van...

Let's see if this worked.....
This should be a picture of the WunderVAN. The guys are all so googoo over this thing.
I have to agree that it was a great distraction for getting David away from the ugly green wagon. I don't think even Karen (gem that she is...and very tolerant of David's habit) would have gone for it.
Enjoy :-*Comment
