Breaking BangShift.com Project Junk News: Our 1966 Chevy C50 Comes HomeBy Brian Lohnes Posted 11/08/09
It's been a wild weekend for us around here. First we winged home from the 2009 SEMA show on Saturday, then got all wound up for our trek on Sunday to officially score our new 1966 Chevy C50 mammoth truck, then spent 12-hours doing just that on Sunday.
We're going to beat you over the head with details on the near future, but suffice it to say that the 5.4 liter engine in our truck hates the hell out of us. It lived, but was looking for a reason not to by the time we got done dragging this Baby Huey out of the Maine woods and 250 miles (one way home).
Here are some photos of our tomfoolery. We'll fill you in on the truck a little later this week. It rules all.

This is no BS on how it went down here at the house tonight.
1.) I get home from work and want to tinker with truck (even though it is dark....flood lights, no worries)
2.) Wife says fine, just take the kids with you. Crap.
3.) Put battery in truck, load 3 y/o into drivers seat.
4.) Put 1 y/o on ground behind me.
5.) Prime carb with some gas.
6.) Look to see where 1 y/o crawled to
7.) Remind 3 y/o not to touch gear shift or hand brake
8.) Place 1 y/o on ground out of harms way, block him in with junk so he cannot escape.
9.) Climb on tire, dump more gas in carb, tell 3 y/o to hit key after looking for 1/yo's location
10.) Instant fire!
11.) Work carb linkage to make sure it with idle
12.) Grab 1 y/o
13.) Climb in truck
14.) Wing motor a couple times and flip wife a friendly bird as she looks out the window
15.) Consult with 3 y/o about wise-ness of trying to move the truck with no brakes
16.) Move truck with no brakes nearly hit stuff.
17.) Back up to tree satisfied and with no injuries.
18.) Explain to wife that I had it under control.

Just got back from a cladestine trip to my house to whack a bunch of photos while it is light out. There's some good....not much bad....and a shitload of ugly. :D
Oh yeah, and Jim, it doesn't seem to be any type of mammoth clutch. Since the damn thing is all the way out to the end of the adjustment rod, I'll be installing one of those. :)

45-50 was a reasonable speed for a big truck back then. The tires are rather tall....that makes up for it partly...

Those gear ratios are INSANE!
This thing is gonna tach out at what - 45mph? ;D

oh, the SM 420 isn't a very big trans, the clutch is probably the normal 11 or 12" pickup truck type.
You need to run this truck over a scale as soon as you get it on the road

SM420 trans, not 100% sure on the clutch.

By "Fire!" I meant the motor fired right off. I'm not Chad. :D

oh, sorry, I naturally assumed the best , flame fire is much more entertaining
Does it have the big truck trans/clutch in it?

The steering ratio is slightly slower than the Queen Mary's, so making some sort of avoidance manuver was not looking good. Luckily the big ass, hand lever operated, drive line mounted emergency brake works pretty good and got us hauled down quick.
The worst part was that the clutch is so far out of adjustment I needed two hands to get the shift lever out of of gear.
The 7.15 first gear and 6.20 set in the pumpkin make for a bulldozer!

Item 2 on your list always seems to be the OK kicker for me also, slows me down a bit , but she just cant figure out how I still get everythng done.
