Amazing Video: CNC Machine Carves a Helmet From Billet AluminumBy Brian Lohnes Posted 01/29/10
This video, which we believe was shot at a German machine shop, is proof positive that, one day, machines will enslave humans and rule the Earth. Just watching this CNC machine take a square block of billet aluminum and turn it into an incredibly detailed dirt bike helmet is pretty awe inspiring. When these machines start thinking for themselves, it is time to head for the hills!
Considering that all the text is in German and we don't speak the language we can't give you much, if any background info. What we can tell you is that unless you are a CNC machine operator, you'll be thoroughly entertained by this clip of a multi-axis machine going about its business.

Having run those machines and many like it, I can tell you that ruling the world with them is not possible - but it sometimes will make you feel like you could. I would very interested in knowing the exact number of hours it took to Keller (the term for such 3D CNC carvings) this helmet. It is very detailed to say the least, and the program itself must have taken days for a CATIA jockey to program. Color me impressed!
